Toad Lily Raspberry Mousse

New

Toad Lily Raspberry Mousse

This vigorous grower gives a whimsical look to late-summer garden beds that lean toward the dark side. A seldom offered, but highly sought-after toad lily variety, Raspberry Mousse adds brightness and beauty to often-neglected semi- to fully shaded areas. Its slender straight stalks and ladderlike leaves accent the small, orchid-like, red-purple blooms very nicely. Try them in a wooded site or in a shadowy perennial border. Toad lilies are highly adaptable, tolerating a wide range of soils, and quite easy to grow. Fast growers, too! In no time, they'll reach up to 24" tall. PP16257

What a beautiful little late bloomer!

Submitted 2 years ago

By Milt

From Murrells Inlet, SC

This Toad Lily is very dainty and beautiful. Every time we walk by them we stop to look! We ordered 3 and each have 25-30 buds all along the main 15" stem, with 3-4 blossoming at a time - in the first year. And they didn't start blossoming until late September, which is exactly what we wanted - some new color in the garden late in the season.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Q
I'm in zone six and have three pine trees on a burn and I'm wondering if this would be a good plant. Also have an issue with dear.
Asked by Don
Verified Reply - AngelaToad Lilies are tolerant of a wide range of soils and shade. Once established. they should do well in the shade around your pines. You will need to keep the soil moist until they are established and during periods of drought. Deer are not generally attracted to these plants. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Can these be potted. Also need information how to plant.
Asked by Bill
Verified Reply - ViciThis plant is hardy in zones 5 - 9. You are in zone 6. When planted in the right conditions, toad lilies are quite easy to care for. They prefer moist, rich soil, shade or partial shade, and consistent water. Toad lilies can be grown in containers, as long as the soil is kept moist. Because these plants do not have access to underground water sources, they will need to be watered more often. Choose a pot with good drainage holes to prevent standing water. You should also pay attention to container material; a glazed ceramic pot or plastic pot is ideal for holding moisture but terracotta can whisk away moisture too quickly. These are shipped as dormant bareroot plants. You want to plant it so that the top of the root is no more than one inch below the soil surface. If there is any growth coming off of the root, that would face up.Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Plants that attract Hummingbirds..
Asked by Katee
Verified Reply - ViciWhat attracts hummingbirds the most? Grow native plants like trumpet honeysuckle, bee balm, and hummingbird sage, which provide much more nectar than hybrids and exotics. Plant native red or orange tubular flowers to attract hummingbirds, in addition to native plants rich in nectar. Was this answer helpful to you
