Good addition to my Liatris section

Submitted 5 months ago

By Trudy

From Selma, Oregon

As an owner of a retail nursery here in Oregon, I would definitely recommend K.Van. K.Van is my "go-to" supplier for viable and healthy plants with a high rate of germination and yield rate. I've ordered from them for the past 5 years and will continue to do so.

Rotten

Submitted 2 years ago

By Plant fan

From South Carolina

This Liatris Spicata were the replacement of another plant I ordered because the other plant was dry when it arrived. This one was rotten, full of some type of flies and the corms were completely rotten and mushy. Do not buy anything from this company.

Unfortunately did not grow

I planted 500 of these bulbs and less than 10 grew. This was very disappointing however the company honored their "guarantee " in regard to the bulbs.

Mixed feelings on this batch

Submitted 3 years ago

By Deb

From North Georgia

Had ordered 100 in past years with excellent results. Newer garden space and wanted same showy display. Of this order of 100, only half came up. Haven't bloomed yet, but seem to wilt and flop over too quickly. I'm still hoping for results. Deer avoid them, but bunnies have feasted on a small patch of 20.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Impressive plant

Submitted 5 years ago

By Joanna Sheldon

From Chicago

I bought 200 corms in 2 rounds in 2018 and 2019. I planted them in groups of 30 all over the garden for a woww effect and let me tell you they did not disappoint. They are low maintenance with a beautiful color and attract lots of butterflies. Highly recommend they just got better with time. They bloomed from the first year and price wise they are a steal. Thank you again!!!! Your biggest fan from Chicago 😜

Questions & Answers

Q&A

Showing 10 out of 11 Questions

Q
How many days after planting these bulbs can you expect them to break thu the surface and bloom?
Asked by John
Verified Reply - AngelaThat will depend on when you plant the Liatris bulbs. They don't bloom until mid to late summer. They usually emerge from the ground in late spring and bloom the first year planted. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Since neonicotinoids toxic to pollinators in even small quantities, can you ensure that the plants I purchase from you wont cause colony collapse to the bees in my area?
Asked by Karen
Verified Reply - AngelaAs a beekeeper myself, I understand your concern completely. I choose to grow mostly organically and even spray free in most cases. Exceptions are made for some fruit trees with careful timing and limited use. I have many, many plants that were not initially grown organically at the nursery. We have many bee hives that have been thriving for years. This is anecdotal and CCD is a very complicated issue. If you are interested in reading more factual information about the problem, here is a great link. https://bee-health.extension.org/pesticides-and-their-involvement-in-colony-collapse-disorder/ Our growers and nurseries use an integrated pest management system and some plants are never sprayed. The plants are treated only if there is an identified issue. All pesticides used are regulated and approved by the EPA.Was this answer helpful to you
Q
When is the best time to plant Liatris corms?
Asked by Bob
Verified Reply - AngelaIf you order Liatris spicata now, we will ship it at the appropriate time for spring planting in your zone. Early spring is the best time to plant in Texas. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Do you use neonicotinoids in plant prep?
Asked by Mary
Verified Reply - AngelaThe EPA regulates the use of pesticides and our in-house growers and those outside suppliers we use, operate off of these regulations. Currently, the EPA is allowing the use of this class of chemical. Neonicitinoids are sold in mass at the retail level by big box stores. They are essentially being used everywhere. For the products that we sell outside of the organic label, we cannot control if they have been exposed to these pest control tools. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
What variety is your Liatris Spicata?
Asked by Victoria
Verified Reply - ViciThis is sold as Liatris Spicata and is not a certain variety. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
HOw many bulbs come in a bag?
Asked by MaryBeth
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Liatris spicata offer includes 100 bulbs. They only need to be planted 1-2" deep so it's easy to get them all in the ground. Liatris is beautiful and reliable. You'll love it. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I have just received the Liatris spicata corms but I am waiting to plant due to the possibility of frost. How and at what temperature should they be stored?
Asked by Lawrence
Verified Reply - ViciThese bareroots should be planted as soon as you can. Frost will not harm these dormant perennial roots. They can be planted as long as the soil is not frozen. They will stay dormant in the ground until the temperatures warm up. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
