Papaver orientale Picotee

Papaver orientale Picotee

Poppies, revered for their uncommonly pretty shape and layers of delicate petals, add a gorgeous pop of bright color to the landscape or indoor arrangements. With this variety, you'll see customers fall in love all over again with exotic poppies. Unique in both form and color, Picotee dazzles in the garden or border with huge 4-6" flowers of silky white. The broad, ruffled edges of each poppy are accented with a delicate line of apricot-coral, giving the blooms a very special appearance that gardeners and landscapers will love. Picotee is a free-flowering plant with a vigorous habit.

Did not grow

Submitted 3 years ago

By Selaine

From Walla Walla, WA

This is such a beautiful papaver. I ordered it with high hopes. It came looking viable. However, nothing ever grew from the roots I planted. All 3 plants. I still would like to have one but I'll have to look elsewhere as none but my red ones have survived, and only 2 of them lived. It's been 2-3 years now and only 1 has blossomed. I love papaver and have grown many in the past. I'd certainly love to add these colors to my garden sometime. I'll have to see if someone else carries them or perhaps locally.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Q
since these Papaver's are shipped bare root, should they be soaked i water before planting and if yes, for how long
Asked by Jan
Verified Reply - ViciIf the roots are dry you could soak them in water for about an hour before planting them. If they don't appear too dry you could just plant them and water them well. Be sure to keep the soil moist until they become established. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
How do you plant the papaver picotee. tenacles up or down>
Asked by Ron
Verified Reply - ViciWhat you are calling tenacles are roots. These face down. If there is any growth on the root that goes up and is placed no more than one inch below the soil. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
When should I plant the ones you just sent me? In zone 6- just had snow.
Asked by Kathy
Verified Reply - KimberlyPapaver orientale Picotee may be planted as long as your ground is not frozen. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
will this plant grow well in zone 7B?
Asked by John
Verified Reply - ViciBecause zone 7b is close to zone 8, it could do well if you plant it in a spot where it will not be subject to that hot afternoon sun. Oriental poppies grow best in Zones 5 to 7, thriving where summers are relatively cool. They languish then perish in the heat and humidity of Zone 8 and hotter. Was this answer helpful to you
