Dutch gladiolus breeder, For Ever, has given us a brand new glad variety that is sure to become a customer favorite. Tall, robust stems bear a plethora of wide florets that appear along one side of the stalk. Each floret bud opens to reveal a gorgeous six-petaled bloom with a lovely bicolor pattern. The three back petals are a rich reddish-pink shade, while the front three petals are awash in subtle apricot tones. Contrasting white midribs add another special element to all six petals. Guinea makes a wonderful addition to a back border or foundation planting. The plants are fast and easy to grow, and are reliably deer resistant.

Unusual flower color - love it or hate it?

Submitted 10 months ago

By Steve

From Van Nuys, CA

Smokey, dusky, purple with pinkish throat is my experience of the color in my garden. I love it, but some may not - I like unusually colored blossoms. One reviewer thought the color appeared old and faded upon opening and I can see that. This is a frequent problem buying from promotional catalog photos - they are often unrealistic. Granted gardening in a hot or cold climate affects color, but the customer photos above are on target about the color. Bulbs are in their third year here and still robust and blooming well this June with temps in the upper 80s.

Loved these gladiolus! We've had an inordinate amount of rain recently. I was late in getting them in the ground but the rain allowed them to all pop up! Loved the color. If you are looking for some color in your flower beds, give these a try. As a plus, they multiply so you will have more plants/flowers each year.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Disappointed, but patient.

All bulbs were beautiful and in great condition. Split them with my daughters. All came up, but no flower spikes. Put them in various areas with different conditions. Plants are dying back now. Maybe next spring will be better? The plants themselves were good and healthy, just no spikes.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Dark red and burgundy

Submitted 4 years ago

By BarbL

From Central Virginia, zone 7a

On the good sie, all of these bulbs came up and are strong, well flowered plants. On the down side, the flowers are quite dark. They are deep red inside and burgundy around the rim. The color make the whole flower spray look old from the time it opens. Really not an attractive gladiolus.

Dusky purple, beautiful blooms

Submitted 4 years ago

By Jc

From Washington

These came up really well. The spikes are sturdy and required minimal staking. The blooms are very large and are a smoky, dusky purple shade that is really pretty and eye catching. The buds were slightly burned by a major heat wave here but continued to bloom well anyway. The faded blossoms are a surprisingly nice lavender shade.
