Culver's Root Fascination

Culver's Root Fascination

100%
of respondents would recommend this to a friend
A lesser known perennial, but definitely one that deserves attention. Culver's Root Fascination features tall spires of light violet-blue and white blooms that reach amazing heights—up to 5 feet!—and make excellent foundation or back border accents. Tough, long lasting and disease resistant. Adds vertical interest like no other, and butterflies and pollinators love to come calling over a long bloom period. Deep green foliage makes a fantastic backdrop for the pale florets. Great for courtyard, coastal and wild gardens. Urban friendly, too.

Every bulb bloomed year one.

Submitted 8 months ago

By Pitstop

From Jay, NY

After reading about this species I didn't expect them to bloom the same year I planted them, but every single one did. I planted with compost and fed a seaweed tonic weekly for the first month. The pollinators love them. Some are in shade, others part sun.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Q
Reading varying info; should I expect to see green growth the same year I planted your roots or not? They are planed in freshly composted soil, loosened up the soil and closed the roots in well just under the soil, full sun, Zone 5.
Asked by Addirondack gardener
Verified Reply - AngelaYes, you should see some foliage growth the first year planted. It may take the plant up to 6 weeks to begin to push up top growth. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
In ATLanta area I planted last fall. It is now 3/21 and all I have are 3 sticks no green yet. When should I see green
Asked by Cat
Verified Reply - AngelaCulver's Root Fascination is slow growing the first year and late to emerge in the spring. It doesn't flower until midsummer to fall and is in no hurry to pop up. You can expect to see new top growth within the next 6 weeks. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
How many years before Culver's Root bulbs actually flower, and how many years until they're fully grown? Thanks!
Asked by Johanna
Verified Reply - AngelaCulver's Root Fascination may bloom in the first or second year after planting. It could reach full height by year two or three. The clump will continue to get wider and may need divided after 3 to 5 years if space is limited. Was this answer helpful to you
