I ordered late May, received June 3. Nine of the 10 roots looked fine; one was dead. Since these were very inexpensive I was happy. Everything else in my order was of reasonable quality except the dahalias.

Nice looking if they live, but that's the problem.

By Dave

From Dunkirk NY

We bought 3 plants I each of three different colors. The roots were so small we put them in pots for the first month and a half. 7 of the nine came up. We planted those 7 in the garden. At this point, maybe 3 of the plants are in shape to live, the other 4 just don't have vigor. And, to boot, none of the ones that are living are "giants". Maybe 2 1/2 foot are the best we have gotten. I'm disappointed.

Merchant Response

Thank you for sharing your review for the Giant Hardy Phlox , we were sorry to hear they did not meet your expectations. Giant Hardy Phlox can take 2-3 years to reach their mature height, the first year of planting they will not meet their full potential. We are delighted to let you know we guarantee our merchandise, your satisfaction is our first and top priority! In looking at your account, we could not find an order for this item and will be reaching out to you to discuss this matter.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Amazing

Submitted 5 years ago

By Prof Ken

From Michigan

Phlox are traditionally a challenge to get going, and it always helps to put in a little soft rock phosphate with the roots to give them some help over the winter. K. Van Bourgondien offers a nice fertilizer for this as well. Hey, I do not work for this company, but the way I praise them may sound like I do. I am a biologist and gardener and I know a good product when I see it, and this company goes out of their way to provide a living product. This idea of a living plant is important to understand. The roots and bulbs you receive may seem dead, but they are actually dormant this time of year; they are literally hibernating or asleep. Don't be discouraged! Make sure the ground is not frozen when planting and if you live in Michigan this time of year, like I do, don't water them either or they will freeze to death. Sometimes when it comes to phlox, they sleep for a long time. I have had some phlox I obtained from a friend, that came up beautifully a full three years after I planted them! Sometimes their root systems are particular. If they do not come up in the spring, it absolutely does not mean they are gone. Give them a chance. Don't dig them back up. As I say, I do not work for this company, but their plants are very much alive and in great shape, and they package them perfectly! They offer amazing bargains.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Asked by CJC

If you prefer, you can plant them in pots. The pots should be stored in an unheated garage or basement for winter. Q
What is the size of the shipped flower? Also, what is a No. 1 size & for Hostas, what is a 1-2 Eye ? Thank you! Priscilla
Asked by Priscilla
Verified Reply - ViciThis plant is shipped as a dormant bareroot plant. A #1 size is a grade of root for the industry. For hosta, it is shipped as a dormant bareroot but it has eyes that will sprout into leaves. So a 1 - 2 eye root will sprout 1 - 2 sets of leaves. Was this answer helpful to you
