Shimadaijin Tree Peony

Shimadaijin Tree Peony

Widely considered to be one of the best tree peonies on the market, Shimadaijin flaunts its eye catching semi-double, reddish-purple blooms throughout the early flowering season. The elegant goblet shape of the peonies is enhanced by the silky sheen of the petals, contrasting golden stamens and the impressive 8" size of the blooms. The rich green foliage is deeply cut into large, pointed lobes. Shimadaijin is pleasingly fragrant and quite vigorous. Tree peonies form shrubs of about 3-7' tall with woody stems. Our tree peonies are grafted and imported directly from Japan.

Growing Tips

  • Planting Instructions:

Dig a planting hole 12" wide and deep, incorporating some garden compost and fertilizer. Plant this grafted bareroot tree peonies deeply. The graft union should be 3 to 4" below the soil. This will encourage the tree peony to make fresh roots and basal shoots. Do not overwater newly planted tree peonies. This is the biggest cause of failure.

  • Winter Care:

None special, a mulch could be a good idea in the coldest zones the first winters

    Once a year in spring.
