Persicaria Red Dragon

Persicaria Red Dragon

100%
of respondents would recommend this to a friend
Fantastic as a unique, color-changing ground cover or border planting, Persicaria Red Dragon roars to life with semi-evergreen, burgundy leaves boasting an eye-catching chevron stripe of blue-gray down the center. The foliage changes to silver-purple, then green with age. This vigorous perennial produces tiny white bloom clusters that adorn the leaf tips from midsummer to early fall. Though it spreads a bit slower than other species, Red Dragon is well worth the wait.

Persicaria Red Dragon, grows like crazy

Submitted 11 months ago

By Tahoe gardener

From Lake Tahoe

Ordered 6 of these and they are all doing exceptionally well. Growing like crazy. Kept them potted up in my little greenhouse for a few weeks as I live at a high altitude and the nights were too cold. But I hardened them off and got them into the ground where I expect them to continue growing rapidly. They are already 4-5 inches tall with lots of that beautiful foliage and each root has numerous shoots, so each plant is quite full. Super happy with these plants.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Q
How drought tolerant?
Asked by Penny
Verified Reply - AngelaPersicaria has average water needs of about an inch a week. It may tolerate some degree of dryness but it performs best in moist, not soggy, soil. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I grew same species in north Georgia, handled heat there easily, but it's quite a bit hotter in Corpus Christi, Texas Gulf coast. We are Zone 10, two blocks from the bay. Will this grow here?
Asked by NewBlueBird
Verified Reply - ViciThis plant is recommended for zone 5 - 9. Corpus Christi Texas is in zone 9b/10a. It could grow well for you but I would plant it where it is protected from that hot afternoon sun and mulch around the roots to keep them moist and cool. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I planted my Persicaria Red Dragon roots as instructed about a week ago, and followed your instructions as closely as possible. how long before I see any growth?
Asked by Glenda
Verified Reply - AngelaIt may take up to 6 weeks to see new top growth from your Persicaria Red Dragon. Just keep the soil lightly moist, not soggy for the first few weeks. Once you see new growth, begin watering more thoroughly about once or twice a week if there is no rainfall. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Do deer typically avoid this plant.....or do they love it?
Asked by Eileen
Verified Reply - ViciThis is an easy-care plant with few problems; it is deer and rabbit resistant and will tolerate urban pollution. Was this answer helpful to you
