Never bloomed

This flower, candy cane sorrel, has been one of the few disappointments I've had with KVB. Bulbs were tiny; none survived. If you decide to try these, consider planting them in pots, so that you can baby them along until they get established.

Merchant Response

Cute Little Plants

Submitted 3 years ago

By Flower Lover

From Austin

Last year was the first time I ordered bulbs/roots online (from several sites). I was overzealous and got way more bulbs/roots (500+) than I could handle. Needless to say I was overwhelmed when they all arrived within two-week span and subsequently didn't plant them all properly. So when some little candy cane flowers peaked out from under other larger plants, I was pleasantly surprised. (Wish I had taken some pictures). Only 3 out 15 came up though. So I will give it a three star.

Not one plant emerged!

Submitted 4 years ago

By Vivi

From Coastal CA

I'm an average gardener. Some experience with bulbs. I planted my five oxalis bulbs in a pot in early winter. Cared for them, watered, and so on. Nothing grew. Bulbs appear to have dissolved. I was really looking forward to these alleged flowers. Would never order oxalis from this company again.

I live in Zone 5. Will bulbs grow if they are in ground through winter?
Asked by Mary
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Oxalis versicolor won't survive winter in zone 5. You will need to lift the bulbs from the ground and store in a frost free location. If you grow them in a pot, you can simply move the pot to an unheated garage or basement. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
What can we do when the leafs have white spots in them
Asked by Jane
Verified Reply - ViciTake a close look at the white spots. This helps you identify and treat the problem. White spots that are actually the tiny bodies of bugs are probably in clusters along the stems and leaf petioles of the plant, or clinging to the undersides of the leaves. White spots caused by fungi will be located on the top of the leaves. These spots rub off easily, unlike those caused by bugs. White spots caused by bleaching can be dry and crumble when touched. Insects can be eradicated with the use of chemical insecticides, but this is not ideal indoors. If you spray your plant with an insecticide, take it outdoors. But first, try rinsing the bugs off with a strong stream of water. This may be effective on smaller infestations. There is no treatment for powdery mildew, but the fungus often affects only a small part of the plant. Trim off the infected leaves to avoid the spores spreading to other parts of the plant. The same treatment holds true for leaves that are damaged by the sun. To prevent powdery mildew, water from below to avoid wetting the leaves, and be sure not to over-water your plant. To prevent burning the foliage, locate your plant where it can receive bright but indirect sunlight. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
How to plant in containers, and how to care for them.
Asked by Lee Ann
Verified Reply - AngelaThese oxalis bulbs are small. Really tiny, not much bigger than a pencil eraser. For 12-15 inch pots - plant 15, For 10 inch pots - plant 10, For 8 inch pots - plant 5. Dig little holes and plant the bulbs 1 inch-1 1/2 inch deep and 2 - 3 inches apart. Just poke them down in the soil, don't worry about which side is up. They'll grow from any position. The bulbs do not require chilling before planting. Use a well draining commercial potting soil and use bulb fertilizer at the time of planting. Moisten the soil. Place the oxalis where they will get full day sun. Foliage will form in about 6 weeks and flowers in 8- 10 weeks. Was this answer helpful to you
