Itoh Peony Julia Rose

Itoh Peony Julia Rose

Light reddish-purple flowers with a spicy fragrance add plenty of romance and style to the mid to late spring garden. Itoh Peony Julia Rose's large, 6-8" flowers also look lovely in a vase. A welcome cross between tree peonies and herbaceous peonies, Itoh peonies are the best of both worlds. They borrow their domed, vigorous growth habit and very sturdy stems from tree peonies, with large, double flowers and disease-resistant, dark green foliage. Once established, Itoh peonies will offer up to 50 blooms in a single season and only grow more beautiful with age. Growing 28" tall, Julia Rose performs best when planted in full sun to partial shade. Deer tend to avoid.

No Flowers

I put this in almost 4 years ago and have yet to get a flower. I do get minimal greenery every year. It is planted in slightly more than half sun in fertile, well-drained soil with plenty of water during our dry summers. I love the color in the catalog and am so disappointed that I can't grow it successfully.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

The most romantic peony I have in my garden!

Submitted 3 years ago

By Holly

From Maine

I adore peonies and have , to date, approximately 50 to 60 growing in my garden. I don't count, I just plant! It does seem as thought they enjoy the climate in this neck of the woods and there have been few issues with them as long as I plant them in healthy soil and provide necessary water and compost. With that said, the Itoh Peony, Julia Rose is my favorite. When in bloom I have the impression that I am looking at a watercolor, instead of an actual flower. Shades of soft rose, to a more saturated, rich, poetic color. I think I will plant another!

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

In October 2020, I received Itoh Peony Julia Rose and immediately planted it in a hole prepared as instructed. Nothing came up. And still nothing came up.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Did not work out for me...

Submitted 4 years ago

By Becky

From Powder Springs, Ga

I don't know what happened, but after no growth or any sign of life I dug up the root and saw that it had become rotten. The soil had been amended and was well-draining, but somehow ended up with a rotten root. Very disappointing.

Q
1. Is this peony suitable for LA weather? 2.If I order now, is it to too late to plant it for summer blooms?
Asked by Christina
Verified Reply - ViciThis peony is recommended for zone 3 - 8. It is too hot in your zone 10 for it to grow. Peonies bloom about 3 - 4 years from when they are planted. Was this answer helpful to you
