Hardy Tall Phlox Tenor

Hardy Tall Phlox Tenor

A choice hybrid, Hardy Tall Phlox Tenor adds bold color and fragrance to the garden from June to September.  Growing 30" tall, Garden Phlox or "Flame Flowers," bloom in profusion with huge, 5-6" flower heads that attract pollinators. The fragrant and showy flowers are a brilliant, non-fading scarlet hue. They are excellent for perennial borders, corners, containers and cut flowers. The foliage is dense and compact with deep green, lance-shaped leaves with prominent veins. Tenor grows best when planted in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade.

Big letdown

Submitted 3 years ago

By Sue the Gardener

From Langhorne, PA

I love Phlox and have white, purple and all the pink shades. So when I saw the red, I couldn't wait for them to bloom. Only 3 out of 5 grew and all three were pink. Is there really a red Phlox? I'm very disappointed.

Merchant Response

Did Great In Pots, but Not Well In the Garden Beds

Submitted 6 years ago

By dkumpula

From Fort Mill, SC

I planted quite a bit of this plant in raised beds and pots with somewhat varying watering and sun. Every plant in a pot did wonderfully and is well into a second big bloom after deadheading the first bloom. That's about four months of blooms so far and we still have about eight weeks before first frost. They have handled heat waves without complaining. In good soil in my beds however, I have had poor results including dead or stunted plants that have yet to bloom. My guess is that this plant is a heavy feeder and likes loose, well-drained soil.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Q
Received my order of hardy tall phlox Tenor. What Are they, I e , Dormant perrinal roots, barefoot nursery Stock or what? Don't know which instructions to Go by. Pkgs don't tell me so don't know how to Store since can't plant till April 15th. Because not Sure which catagory this phlox falls in?
Asked by Inexperienced gardner
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Hardy Tall Phlox Tenor is shipped as a dormant bareroot plant. You can store them in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator until planting. We suggest planting them as soon as possible regardless of the temperature. They are dormant and won't mind the colder temperatures. They will naturally awaken when warmer weather arrives. You will want to plant the roots so the crown is even with the soil level and water well. Was this answer helpful to you
