Sedum Mojave Jewels™ Sapphire

Sedum Mojave Jewels™ Sapphire

Among the toughest and most versatile plants in the late-summer garden, this unique sedum features jaw-dropping color and a wonderfully full form. Sapphire, part of the Mojave Jewels collection, produces a drought-tolerant plant with succulent-like leaves in a rich shade of purple-blue. The more sun the plant gets, the deeper the foliage color will be. Late in the season, green blooms appear and quickly change to a baby pink hue as the flowers age, creating a cooling contrast against the dark bluish leaves. Tops for perennial borders, rock gardens and mixed containers. Also used as a unique ground cover. Attracts pollinators and butterflies. PPAF

Does not keep a tight mound even in a southern aspect

Submitted 8 months ago

By Organicgro

From Midland, Michigan zone 6a

Love the color of this sedum. Beware the enticement of buying the 'new' plant without a rating. Bought three Mojave sapphire sedums to grow against the south wall of the garage, hot, dry, very sunny. Companions are nepeta, bronze fennel, baptisia, oriental poppy, Eryngium, and a medium height spiky, powder-blue grass. All are well except the sedum now in its second year. The color of the sedum is as promised, but they appear to be bolting, or reaching out for the sun, which mystifies as it is sited in the fullest of sun. I splurged on these for the promise they keep a neat mound, but alas, we are in Michigan.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend
