Lovely, bright yellow-green fern with wide, deeply laciniated leaves, Lady Fern is a real favorite for shade and woodland gardens. Its yellow-green foliage provides color and texture from April until the first fall frost. Whether used in borders or as a background, ferns enhance any garden with their gracefulness and their beautiful varying shades of green. They're easy-to-grow perennials and grow almost anywhere. For best results, plant in full shade to partial shade. Deer tend to avoid fern plants.

Half came up

Submitted 3 years ago

By Liz

From Missouri

So I have found ferns are touchy. 2021 I got one good and one bad batch. Interestingly the ones I ordered later in April when it was warmer came up but the first batch in March did not. I don't know for sure...but it was fairly chilly here at the time. This was my guess As to the issue... Fast forward one year all the ferns from last year Came up fine and much more vigorously. I expect year 3 will be glorious they are totally awesome to look at. Worth it but I would.order in mid spring. I ordered more ferns this year and I had the same experience as last year the march order did not come up.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Q
I currently have Ostrich ferns and they're IMPOSSIBLE to control! I have a shady area that I would like to plant a fern that would stay ONLY in the spot where I plant them and am looking at either the Christmas fern or the Lady fern - are either of these a plant that I can control, or should I look for a different plant completely?
Asked by Jodi
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Lady Fern will also naturalize and form colonies although not as aggressively as Ostrich Ferns. The Christmas Fern will stay where you plant it. It will get wider but does not colonize. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
What are the eyes on a bare root?
Asked by Colleen
Verified Reply - ViciThe eyes are the little nodules where the plant will grow. It looks like the eye on a potato or like a little sprout. If you don't see any eyes on your bareroot, simply plant it with the top of the root just below the soil level. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
I planted 10 Lady Ferns in the fall and they have not come up yet. Is this typical for zone 7a? We live in east Tennessee,
Asked by Cathy
Verified Reply - ViciI think you should be seeing some growth depending on how your spring weather has been. You could give them to mid May to see if they start growing then. These ferns are guaranteed to grow for you. Please let us know if they do not. You might dig one up to see if it is ok.Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Does this come as a bare root? Can it grow good in full shade? Same questions for the Christmas fern. Thanks.
Asked by Mary Ann
Verified Reply - KimberlyThe Lady Fern and the Christmas fern are shipped as bareroots. They both should grow well in full shade. Was this answer helpful to you
