Native Woodland Fern Mix

Native Woodland Fern Mix

Add easy-care color and texture to woodland gardens, native plant gardens and shaded areas with the Native Woodland Fern Mix. This random mix includes ferns of various sizes and green shades. Ferns are some of the easiest shade perennials to grow and perform best in partial to full shade and moist soils. This makes them a good choice for planting along shaded water features, ponds and streams. Low maintenance plants, ferns are rarely bothered by insect pests or diseases. Fern plants tend to be deer resistant.

Not much luck with the ferns

Submitted 2 years ago

By Disappointed

From Chillicothe Ohio

I should have read the previous comments, my experience was much the same. I ordered 7 ferns, placed them in good soil and watered regularly. One out of seven has produced a frond.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Supposed to be 10 bareroot plants, but only got 2 viable

Submitted 2 years ago

By May

From Washington D.C

I ordered at the tail end of the spring season. I received a bag of dirt with two or three bare roots that looked viable, and about 5 tiny pieces of dried up tangled root masses that I couldn't really tell if they were supposed to be planted or just broken off from the other bare roots. Anyway, I planted them and two of them came up, and are doing well so far. They look to be lady ferns. Overall disappointing. $27 for ten ferns is a great value; $27 for two is not.

Merchant Response

May, thank you for your review of the Native Woodland Fern Mix. We are terribly sorry to hear that some of your bare roots failed to grow. We have an excellent No-Risk Guarantee on our plants. One of our Customer Care agents will be contacting you soon with a positive resolution.

Did not come up

Submitted 2 years ago

By Steve

From Sherwood, AR

I received this order in early March, and planted them the same day in good soil. The roots did not look healthy, but I planted them anyway. Not one of them ever came up (7 weeks ago). Maybe Dutch Bulbs should stick to bulbs (which are good).

Poor quality miniscule size

Submitted 3 years ago

By John

From Zone 8a

I ordered a total of 100 ferns last year. When they arrived they were barely moist and most were so miniscule I could hardly discern which was the frond end. In tbe spring less that 10% came up, even though I followed the planting instructions and prepared each hole with some good humus. So disappointing. Don't waste your money on there. There is a reason they are priced so low.

Merchant Response

So disappointed

Submitted 4 years ago

By Merry

From Wheeling WV

I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed. Of the 5 ferns in the first batch that arrived in the spring, only two have come up, and so far, only one frond apiece. I received a replacement bag of five ferns, which was very generous, but after removing the item in the bag, I found one very large fern. Now, I'm not terribly heartsick about it, because it was quite large, and might do well, but I doubt I will order ferns from this company again. They very generously replaced the hostas and heucheras that arrived in bad shape, so overall my order is mostly replaced, so I'm not mad, just disappointed. First time doing bareroots, so there's a learning curve, be warned.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Q
I'm in 7A. The area in ? receives morningand afternoon shade and noonday sun. Also , what area will this group cover eventually
Asked by Tish
Verified Reply - AngelaNoonday sun is the hottest sun and I think your ferns can survive but may look stressed and brown during the summer months. It would be very important to keep the soil consistently moist. Since this is a mix and we don't know which varieties will be included, the coverage area will vary. Roughly, you can expect the plants to cover 25 to 30 square feet at maturity. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
If I order 5 bags of the Native Woodland Fern Mix in December 2022, can I hold them in a cool place over the winter and then plant in the Spring 2023.
Asked by Jack
Verified Reply - AngelaNo. We suggest planting the Native Woodland Fern Mix when they arrive. They won't hold until spring. If you are not able to plant them in the garden, you can plant them in pots. Water at planting and store in an unheated garage or basement for winter. They won't need light. Just water lightly about once a month to keep the soil from drying out completely. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
If I were to purchase your "woodland fern mix" can I be sure that there is a variety of ferns included.? I already have an abundance of Christmas ferns to be planted within walled border areas in my small city garden, and would not want any more of those, if possible. Your description says that they are a random assortment. What kinds of ferns are represented in the assortment? I believe that the only named fern that you are offering separately is the maidenhair.
