Hidcote Blue Comfrey

of respondents would recommend this to a friend
Hidcote Blue Comfrey is an amazing shade dweller that adds new life to darkened corners of the landscape with clusters of true blue flowers accented in white. The blooms appear in late spring to early summer, adding beauty and attracting charming butterflies to the area. Plus it forms a low-growing, weed-resistant carpet of rich green foliage to boot. The perennial plants are drought resistant, and with their early-season bloom time, make ideal companions for daffodils. Plant in sun-dappled borders or feature beds to illuminate shadowy sites.

Healthy plants but no blooms in the first year

Submitted 9 months ago

By Flower maximalist

From Zone 7a

At first I was disappointed when I saw only two (not three) small clumps of seemingly dead plant, but I planted them anyway following the instructions. After a couple weeks and some generous watering, they finally sprouted and leafed out into generous, healthy-looking plants, and I realized the second clump appears to be 3-4 small plants growing together. Hidcote blue comfrey is growing quite happily in the shade under a tall shrub and seems to be well-established, but there have been no blooms in the first year -- fingers crossed for next year.
