Eastern Red Cedar

Eastern Red Cedar

It's easy to see why the Eastern Red Cedar is a favorite for low-maintenance landscapes. This dense, cold-hardy evergreen tree, a native to the eastern United States, grows 30-65 ft. tall with an attractive conical to columnar form. The reddish-brown bark exfoliates. Easy to grow, it tolerates a wide range of growing conditions, including dry and moist soils. Once established, it's drought tolerant. The female Eastern Red Cedar produces berry-like cones that birds will feast on. A versatile tree, it can be planted as a specimen or grouped together to create a privacy screen. It prefers full sun. Avoid planting near apple trees. Zones 2-9
