Double Peony Red

This red double peony is hardy, fragrant, long-lived, and rarely needs dividing. As a bonus, it is superior as cut flowers—it's no wonder peonies are considered "The Queen of Garden Flowers!" Great as focal points in a perennial bed, for hedges or in a spot of their own. Very low care and high performance.

Q
these bare roots plants will take how long to bloom?
Asked by Matt
Verified Reply - AngelaPeonies may take up to three years to begin blooming. It's worth the wait! Once they start, they will bloom reliably every spring for decades. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
What are the varities of these 5 /bag red peonies ? How many eyes per peony?
Asked by Julliet
Verified Reply - AngelaThe variety of peony is Paeonia lactiflora 'Red'. Each root division should have 2 to 3 eyes. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Planted 5 double red peonies. All grew, some even have flower buds. They are about 4-6 inches tall. Two just wilted overnight and are clearly unsalvageable? Any ideas about what happened? the others appear robust. Also should I snip the buds forming? To let plant developers roots and foliage? I want to replace lost plants, can I plant them in the same spot?
Asked by Vickie
Verified Reply - AngelaI would not necessarily give up on those plants. They could have wilted from overwatering. If that's the case, and they are allowed to dry out a bit, they may come back for you. You could see new foliage grow this year or next spring. I would check the soil to see if it's draining differently than where the healthy peonies are growing. If so, adjust your watering accordingly. Unless you saw brown blotches on the leaves or grey mold, I would assume it's a watering issue. If you do replace the plants, it shouldn't be a problem to plant them in the same location. I would snip those buds of the remaining plants. The small plants could use that energy for root development. Sounds like they are happy campers. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
why did my peony's not look anything like the picture of the bareroot plant above? I hope I got them planted correctly. All of the one's I received look different from the others.
Asked by Blondie1059
Verified Reply - AngelaWe try to give a photo that is representative but roots grow as they like. The most important part about planting is to keep them only and inch or two below the soil level. It really doesn't matter which way is up.Was this answer helpful to you
Q
What's the flower size on the double peony mixed and the double coll. Than you.

I'm in Zone 4 - 5. I want to plant these peonies in a raised bed, but do not want to lift and store over winter. Will these survive our winter in raised beds?
Asked by 6catags
Verified Reply - ViciThis peony is recommended for zones 3 - 8 and will survive the winter in raised beds. It would be beneficial to mulch the plants in the winter. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Can you grow the double peonies in pots/containers? Also, During the winter do the plants loose all foliage? If so, should or can they be dug up and stored inside?
Asked by marla
Verified Reply - KimberlyYes, you may plant Double Peony Red in a large pot/container. They foliage does die back. If planted in a container, you will want to overwinter in a non-heated garage or shed, watering once a month or when soil is extremely dry. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
How do I store my bare root peonies until I can get them planted? I just received the order today (3/5/21) in zone 7b and I won't be able to plant them for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Asked by Marty
Verified Reply - KimberlyThe best place to keep peonies is in the original bag with the original packing material that they were shipped in. Keep the items in a cool location. The crisper drawer of your refrigerator is ideal for this. Was this answer helpful to you
