Itoh Peony Lollipop

Itoh Peony Lollipop

For borders and beds with sweet appeal, suggest your customers plant a generous number of this prolific bloomer. Lollipop is a gorgeous variety that bears an abundance of yellow, semi- to fully double, 6" flowers liberally streaked and striped in clear candy red. The big blooms cover neat, mounding plants for several weeks in the landscape or cutting garden, dependably appearing from May until June. Itoh, also known as intersectional, peonies are a cross between bush and tree cultivars. They deliver the best of both peony worlds and make excellent garden additions. Perennializes well with showy blooms that return yearly.

It's growing

Submitted 4 years ago

Can't say for a few years if it matches the description. After 3 weeks I can see it coming out of the ground. Hopefully update in a year or two if the colors match. Definitely need room for it to grow.

Totally Disappointed

Submitted 4 years ago

By Gardener

From CA

This peonies was planted by my professional gardeners and nothing grew. It arrived very small with two little eyes. I go and check it out every couple of days hoping that something will start sprouting. There are other peonies that KVB sells that did much better and the fraction of the cost. Totally Disappointed and was not an inexpensive plant!!!

Q
When planting a bare root, approximately how many blooms should I expect next spring?
Asked by Novice
Verified Reply - AngelaPeonies may take up to three years to begin blooming. Once they start, they will produce dozens of blooms reliably every spring for decades. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
After I planted the bare root in late spring, should I mulch over it? Or I should wait till it sprouted, then mulch around it to help with hot summer heat? Or no mulch at all since Zone 8 is not cold in winter
Asked by Wendy
Verified Reply - ViciIf you choose to put down your mulch, you might leave a small bare spot where the root was planted to allow it to sprout easily. Mulch will help to keep the soil cool and moist in the summer. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
If I want to plant this peony in a container, what size ( how many gallon ) would you recommend? How fast will it grow as in how often is repot to bigger container necessary ?
Asked by Wendy
Verified Reply - KimberlyUse an ample sized container of 10 gallons or larger for best results, as the roots of a peony grow rather large. Be sure it has adequate drainage and remember to water more frequently than a ground planted peony. Peonies will also do well in large raised beds. Was this answer helpful to you
