Giant Hybrid Lily Big Brother

Giant Hybrid Lily Big Brother

Outstanding size, color and fragrance make Giant Hybrid Lily Big Brother a favorite year after year. The large, lemon-yellow flowers with creamy edges reach up to 12" across—and their fragrance will perfume the summer air. Big Brother is a cross between the exotic Oriental and regal trumpet lilies. Orientals are known for their fragrance, spectacular color and flower size. Trumpets are known for their trumpet-shaped flowers; they naturalize well and are easy to grow. The sturdy stems on these lilies can reach a height of 3-4', with large, sweet-smelling blooms 3-6" in size in the first year alone. By the second year, they can shoot up to 5-6', and within three years these lilies can reach as high as 6-8' with masses and masses of beautiful blooms to enjoy. The surge in height is owed to their extraordinary ability to produce multiple stems from a single bulb.

Didn't grow

I ordered several of these bulbs. They not only didn't bloom, they didn't even grow. There were 3 other types of bulbs I ordered, received 25 bulbs in total. Only 3 bulbs grew and none of those 3 produced a bloom or plant.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

These lilies are absolutely gorgeous! Watching them bloom was the highlight of my summer. The blooms are huge and the smell is intoxicating! Easy maintenance! I purchased some in 2020. That summer they grow to about 4 feet tall. This summer they were over 6 feet tall. I ordered more bulbs this summer and they grew about 3 feet as well. Can't wait until next summer. My neighbors are so envious! The blooms are huge!!!

I received large bulbs that grew about 3.5' tall the first season. No special care required. Bloomed beautifully with many large blooms. Can't wait to see how they grow next year.

4 of the 5 bulbs came up and they are very pretty. The plant is about 13 inches tall and the flower was about 8 inches across. Not nearly what I expected from the description, but still a very pretty flower. I have many lilies in my yard so they are a good addition.

A complete flop

I was very disappointed in my order. It came late in the season, months after I ordered the bulbs and plants. I am an experienced gardener but most of the order was mushy and unhealthy. None of the lilies came up which is unusual. I did call the company and they agreed to a credit for future purchases but I'm hesitant to reorder the plants. I have had better luck with fall-planted bulbs from this company.

Q
My big brother lillies stopped having a fragrance after the 2nd year? Any suggestions. Planted 3 years ago and 1st year got 5ft tall and 20 blossoms that smelled amazing. They have multiplied but 2nd year not as tall and no fragrance. Same this year. Any suggestions? Thanks
Asked by Mike
Verified Reply - AngelaThe fragrance of the Lily doesn't fade with the age of the plant. Growing conditions may affect the intensity of the scent. The fragrance is also reduced if the stamen is removed or damaged. Lilies always smell better in the evening hours. Was this answer helpful to you
