Astilbe Fanal

Astilbe Fanal

of respondents would recommend this to a friend
With its dark red, fluffy flower spikes and attractive foliage, Astilbe Fanal adds drama, color and texture to shaded areas. Growing 20" tall, it's a great addition to the perennial border, in bed plantings or even containers! Blooming in early to midsummer, the mass of feathery plumes sway in the summer breeze—and they're great as cut flowers too. Lacy, deep green or bronze-green foliage continues to add texture to your gardens. Plant astilbe in rich, moist soil, in shade or semi-shade and in groups of 5 or more for maximum impact. Deer tend to avoid.

Very happy with 1st year growth

Submitted 3 years ago

These looked great upon arrival. I received nice sized rhizomes. For the first year, I am very happy with the growth. The color is lovely. These grew into very healthy young plants. Can wait to see how they fill in over the years. My yard gets very little sun and it's so hard to find plants that add color. These astilbe fit the bill.

Q
Will Astilbe thrive in Zone 9A (Houston, TX) shaded areas?
Asked by Ty
Verified Reply - AngelaAstilbe is suited for USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 8. It's possible it could do well since you are close to zone 8 but we can't guarantee it. If you try it, in addition to full shade, I would suggest mulching the root zone to retain moisture and keep the roots cool. Was this answer helpful to you
