Lilium martagon Guinea Gold

Aptly named martagon or Turks Cap Lily delivers flower power and eye-catching color. Lilium martagon Guinea Gold's golden flowers are splashed with pink hues and orange speckles. They're a showy addition to bouquets and cut-flower arrangements. Growing 45-52" tall, it blooms in midsummer and attracts pollinators. A very strong garden performer, this lily variety prefers well-drained soils but will tolerate heavier ones. For the best display, plant lily bulbs in groups. Lily flowers perform best when planted in full sun to partial shade.

Simply put, martagons take time to establish. Don't expect amazing things the first year or two...it takes some time. Each year these have come back better and better with no care or attention! Just put them in the ground in a good spot and wait! The show is worth it each season!

The martagons grew as expected. All the bulbs emerged this year and that is good as hey sometimes take a year before they decide to grow. The stems of these first year martagons were small but they all bloomed and were true to name.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Exactly as shown, most bloomed the first year too!

Martagons have a reputation for not exactly doing a lot their first year in the ground, as well as generally being pricier. I can say that 9 if not all 10 of the bulbs I planted in late 2021 came up in 2022, and most put on a beautiful first bloom this summer. I look forward to seeing how they progress and perform in years to come.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

They were a non-event. I only saw one and the one I saw was covered in red beetles. I have no idea what happened. I have trusted K. for many years and will continue to do business with them. Nature can be strange.

My lilies arrived in great shape last fall and grew on time this spring. Was surprised and pleased that most of them bloomed; I am anticipating that next year they will be taller and all blooming from the looks of how they've settled in over the summer. Thank you!

3 out of the 5 bulbs were successful. The resulting flowers are similar to the picture advertised. I am in year one with these bulbs, and the successful ones are leggy, but I expect this to improve with time.

Pleasantly Surprised

Submitted 5 years ago

By Denis

From Albany, NY

I planted these last fall and was pleasantly surprised when they started to peek through the ground. I was even more pleased as they grew and flowered. All but one of the five flourished, and that was because I accidentally stepped on the one and thereby stunted its growth. Looking forward too planting more this fall!

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend
