Parrot Tulip Mix

Dazzling mix creates a sensation in the garden and a vase! Parrot Tulip Mix is a random mix of colors. With their exotic shape, color and design, these sensational tulips resemble their namesake colorful tropical birds. Frilled, ruffled and flared petals are splashed and striped with brilliant color combinations that are unlike those of any other tulip. They bloom in mid to late spring on 18-28" tall stems amid striking green foliage. For the best garden performance, plant tulip bulbs in well-drained soil and in full sun to partial shade.

They came up just fine and weathered to spring snow here in CO. Red ones seemed kinda short but they were still beautiful.

Very interesting

Very interesting colors- but disappointed that I didn't get any pinks or more specialty selection. I got all warm colors that seem pretty standard. Despite that they started off plain and get more and more interesting as they age!

Large beauties

These were beautiful and large - wish I had more. BUT, they are tall and stems are not strong enough to hold up the heavy bulbs. They all ended up bending over. Still, what a gorgeous splash of color!

Q&A

Showing 3 out of 3 Questions

Q
If I grow these tulips in a container, what do I do after they bloom? Can they be saved for next year or are they no longer god?
Asked by none
Verified Reply - AngelaAfter the tulips flower, fertilize and continue to water lightly. Allow the foliage to die back naturally. Once it is dormant, move the pot to an unheated garage or basement. Water very lightly about once a month to keep the soil from drying out completely. Move the pot back outside in the early spring and fertilize again when you see new growth. You can also dig up the bulbs after they are dormant and let them dry out in a shady place for a few days. Store the bulbs in peat moss, soil free mix, perlite, even dry and crumbly garden soil; in buckets, galvanized tubs and big plastic pots. Put a layer of dirt or peat or mix or whatever in the bottom of the container, then a layer of bulbs, then more 'dirt', more bulbs, etc. until you're done; then add several inches of your 'packing dirt' on the very top. Keep in a cool garage or basement for the summer. Be sure to cover the top with a screen to allow air but exclude critters. Plant out in the garden or pots in the fall. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
can i plan them in containers?
Asked by shaoli
Verified Reply - AngelaYou can absolutely plant the Parrot Tulips in a container. You will want to put the pots in an unheated garage or shed for winter and bring them out in the spring to bloom. Potted bulbs don't have the same insulation as those planted in the ground and are susceptible to freezing in pots. No light is needed while in storage but you will want to lightly moisten the soil about once a month to keep it from drying out completely. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Is the group a random sample, or does one get some of each variety?
Asked by me
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Parrot Tulip Mix is a random mix of varieties. Was this answer helpful to you
