Hardy Tall Phlox Nicky

Hardy Tall Phlox Nicky

Beautiful violet-purple flowers and enticing fragrance will draw garden visitors for a closer look. A choice hybrid, Hardy Tall Phlox Nicky blooms for months—from June to September. Growing 30-36" tall, Garden Phlox or "Flame Flowers," bloom in profusion with huge, 5-6" flower heads that attract pollinators. The fragrant and showy flowers are a brilliant, non-fading violet-purple hue. They are excellent for perennial borders, corners, containers and cut flowers. The foliage is dense and compact with deep green, lance-shaped leaves with prominent veins. Hardy Tall Phlox Nicky grows best when planted in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade.

Intoxicating smell and intense purple color

Submitted 3 years ago

By DiggingOhio2

From NE Ohio

Nikki has been growing in my zone 5 garden for 4 years now with no effort on my parts! We have hard winter's and Nikki doesn't care! She is very hardy, haven't seen any disease and blooms non stop for month's (I do dead head). Perfume scent is so intense when nearby, sweet and not obtrusive!

Company is not reliable

By PR

They delayed my order by over a month without even telling me, and keep requesting reviews when I haven't, and may not, receive the plant. Now it may be too late to find this plant elsewhere. Disappointed.

Did not come up

Submitted 4 years ago

By Susan

From Duluth, MN

I ordered these in the summer, so they shipped in the fall. I live in Duluth, Minnesota, and received these plants in late October, when we often already have snow on the ground. I'd say that's a bit late for bare root, especially when it's coming from some nice, cozy nursery. Due to either the late shipping or a bad product, not a single one of these came up. The next year, I requested a new order, and that was processed easily. However, I now see my (re)order is backordered and set to ship in November. The bad product and/or lack of sensibility in shipping deserve 1 star.

Merchant Response

We appreciate your feedback. We were sorry to hear our late shipping of the Phlox Nicki could have hindered it's growth and we are sorry to hear you are concerned as the replacement order will be shipping late in the season as well. You may always start the bareroot in a pot and then transplant them in the spring when the last freeze has passed. We were happy to see one of our customer care specialist was able to assist you with this matter that better accommodates your needs.

Most of them didn't grow

I hate to give low scores. But I had to say something. i ordered 10 of phlox in spring, 5 purple and 5 red. I followed all the proper steps. But only 3 of them sprouted, and they are very weak, and hope next year it is still alive. seven of then neve came out. Maybe others got different results. But I just wanna lay the facts.

Overwintered in plastic pots!

Submitted 4 years ago

By Katie

From NY

As I mentioned in a review last year, these arrived incredibly healthy and high quality. I put them individually in 2 quart Plastic garden pots. Because I ordered them so late in spring, I didn't get to see them flower although all made leaves. This winter, I left them in their pots (correction: forgot them in their pots) and they amazingly all overwintered and are shooting up with vigor right now! I bought bare roots from another company this fall and not only were they dry and not healthy looking, they did not overwinter in the ground. Amazing how these phlox did not freeze in the pots. I just ordered Goliath phlox from KVB and can't wait to finally see the Nickis flower this season!

Beautiful bare roots

Submitted 5 years ago

By Katie

From NY

These bare roots were amazingly big, healthy, moist and perfectly packed. I have always been skeptical about purchasing bare roots because of big box blunders where the root literally breaks off in my hands or is moldy. For the price, I am stunned at how nice these look. Nicest I've ever seen. I'm excited to see if the color is the same amethyst as another phlox I planted years ago. Even if it's not, I'm still super impressed by the beautiful quality of these roots.

Q
Why are they shipped in the fall, do you plant in fall? How hardy is nikey, how will they do in minnesota winters.
Asked by Jody
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Hardy Tall Phlox Nicky is suited for USDA Hardiness Zones 3 to 8. Fall shipped plants should be planted in the fall when they arrive. They will work on establishing a healthy root system until the ground freezes and be ready to grow in the spring. We suggest several inches of mulch be applied when the ground approaches freezing. This will prevent heaving due to alternate freezing and thawing. Remember to pull back the mulch in the spring. Was this answer helpful to you
