Growing Tips

  • Planting Instructions:

    Set rhizome so bottom half is below ground level. Firm well and water thoroughly. Plant where they will get at least 5 hours of sun per day.
  • Soil Moisture:

    Well drained preferred. Quite tolerant of a wide range of soils.
  • Will Tolerate:

    Acidic Soil, Clay Soil, Loamy Soil, Sandy Soil
  • Pruning Instructions:

    Remove spent flower stems after blooming. In late fall, cut back foliage to 6" fans. Clean plant debris before winter to prevent borers overwintering.

    Mulch in colder climates and remove in early spring before growth starts.

We take advanced orders, and as the crops are harvested, our staff of K. van Bourgondien experts makes an on-the-spot selection of the finest bulbs available to fill those reservations.
We will pack and ship your order based on the following schedules. The type of product you order or the weather may affect the anticipated shipping schedule. Please note that we cannot ship outside of the 48 contiguous states. What zone am I in?

Do the dwarf irises bloom only once or multiple times throughout the summer

Verified Reply - AngelaDwarf Irises will bloom one time in the early spring. After blooming, it's important to allow the foliage to die back naturally as the plants go dormant for summer.Was this answer helpful to you

Will these do well in a container?

Verified Reply - AngelaThe Dwarf German Irises will do well in containers. You should move the container to an unheated garage for the coldest parts of winter. You can move them back outside in the early spring when the danger of a deep freeze has passed,Was this answer helpful to you
