Light pink, frilly and fragrant flowers add plenty of charm to the early summer garden. Measuring 7-8" across, these double flowers also are impressive in a vase or bouquet. Sarah Bernhardt Double Peony is a hardy, long-lived perennial that rarely needs dividing. Growing 36-48" tall with medium to dark green foliage, it's ideal for planting as a focal point in perennial beds, for hedges or in a spot of its own. I'm worried with my investments

Submitted 2 years ago

By Jan

From Virginia Beach

I bought 3 packs with 5 barefoot on it. I don't like the packaging. The wood chip that supposed to cushion it is not enough. So when the plastic was twisted tight, i broke some of it's roots and eyes. I contacted customer service, I was told to plant it and give it a try before they will send me a refund. Which I agreed. That's why I am worried. Also the sizes I don't like the sizes are not the same. I think they should have weighed it, for it to be uniform. See the photo attached. Don't set up your hopes high. I thought to receive tubers as big as Itoh's which cost $30-40 each bare root. I thought too that I get a better deal with this 5 sarah bernhardt, which infact a one bare root divided to five. I'm disappointed and sad because i have a huge flower beds to fill.

Merchant Response

Hi Jan, if the peony bareroot has any eyes, then it will grow and flower. Please keep in mind that it can take up to three years for peonies to bloom. However, you should have green growth next year. If that's not the case, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Sad

Submitted 4 years ago

By Chris the flower lover

From Maryland

I received my one root, with no eyes. I planted it 3 to 4 weeks ago and have yet to see any growth. I planted and watered as directed. Sad that It didn't grow at all. I was so looking forward to this peony :(

Merchant Response

Thank you for your review. We were sorry to hear the Double Peony Sarah Bernhardt arrived with no eyes and has failed to grow within 4 weeks of planting. We typically ask our customers to wait 6-8 weeks to see any established growth from newly planted bareroots but with it arriving with no eyes it may not grow. We will be reaching out to you to discuss this matter further as we do guarantee our merchandise.

Beautiful Flowers

Submitted 4 years ago

By Sophia

From Westchester, NY

We ordered a bag with 5 roots in the fall of 2019. Two out the five flowered in the spring of 2020. To our surprise, one of this flower was white and smaller, more like Festiva Maxima instead of Sarah Bernhardt. The rest of the 3 have flowered this year. And two of them are white. I contacted customer service in June 2020 and they sent me a bag of Sarah Bernhardt roots as replacement in that fall. I planted them in October 2020, but none of them has buds yet this year which is quite common. So we will know next spring whether they are genuine Sarah Bernhardt. Both types of peonies are very unique and beautiful. We ordered a bag Karl Rosenfield last fall. They didn't flower this year. But from the stems, we can tell there are at least two types of peonies. We will know what surprise we will get next summer.

Beautiful bushes to his ugly fence

Submitted 4 years ago

By Jewels Loving Life

From New Boston MI

Planted in 2018 fall along neighbors unkept fence. No blooms in 2019 but 2020 all had blooms except 1. I was going to move them this fall but when I started to dig, found beautiful roots and they were loaded with eyes so I decided to leave them be. Will order another package of 5.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Q
I am wondering when the plants would ship to Denver Colorado. I would need them to arrive before the end of September. I am also wondering if you can plant 2 or 3 of the plants together to get larger bushes faster
Asked by Val
Verified Reply - AngelaWe can't guarantee they would arrive by the end of September but your estimated shipping date will be provided with your order confirmation email. Peonies can be planted until the ground freezes. We don't suggest planting more than one tuber in a planting hole. It will create overcrowding which can lead to disease. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
How many plants per bag?
Asked by Chris
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Double Peony Sarah Bernhardt offer includes 5 bareroots. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
What is a double Poeony Sarah Bernherdt-----you mean 3 to 6 eyes instead of 2/3 eyes.
Asked by Josephine
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Double Peony Sarah Bernhardt has a double flower form. The offer includes 5 bareroots with 2-3 eyes each. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Will this work in zone 9 or does it need the ground to freeze?
Asked by Donna
Verified Reply - AngelaWe suggest the Double Peony Sarah Bernhardt for USDA Hardiness Zones 3-8. You won't likely have the required chill hours for the plant to bloom in zone 9. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
If i am not ready to plant in a permanent location, what is the best way to store these peonies?
Asked by Lisa
Verified Reply - AngelaWe suggest planting your peony roots as soon as possible. You can hold your Sarah Bernhardt Peonies for a few weeks in a cool, dark and dry location in their original packaging. If you need to hold them longer, pot them up and store in an unheated garage or basement. Water lightly at planting and about once month. You are just trying to keep the soil from drying out completely. You can plant them in the garden as soon as the soil is workable. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Is this easy to grow, read it takes 5 yrs to bloom? Also, got a question not related to peonys. I want to order Amayrillis red lion. Is this poison to my cats n dog. Can u tell me which kind are not? Thank you!
Asked by Eleetra
Verified Reply - AngelaPeonies are relatively pest and disease free if provided full sun and properly draining soil. They can take about three years to fully bloom but are long lived perennials that will provide decades of color. All Amaryllis or Hippeastrum are toxic to pets if consumed. The bulb is apparently the most toxic part of the plant. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I live in zone 8b, can I grow the Sandra Bernhardt peony here? If not, what types of peonies will grow here?
Asked by Debbie
Verified Reply - AngelaYou can grow Sandra Bernhardt Peonies in zone 8. Plant the peonies shallow, about an inch beneath the soil level. I would suggest morning sun and afternoon shade. Was this answer helpful to you
