Hybrid Gladiolus Zizane

One of our most popular varieties, Hybrid Gladiolus Zizane features a highly unusual color pattern of white and red streaks. Its flowers are bold and showy in the garden and in fresh floral arrangements. Growing just over 4' tall, Hybrid Gladiolus Zizane's swordlike foliage and tall flower spikes make striking accents in the flower border. They're also very showy cut flowers. To enjoy blooms for many weeks, plant bulbs at two-week intervals from early spring until the end of June. Glads are easy to grow, requiring only full sun and good drainage. Deer tend to pass gladiolus by. Lift gladiolus bulbs in the fall in zones 3-7.

These were mostly an orange red. I've grown them before and these were not right. Not even nice flowers either. Very small.

Bought these late in the season; planted them immediately. Zone 9 and very dry here. Most came up, but only about half ever bloomed. Perhaps they will do better next year.

Should have been beautiful

None of the glads I ordered did well at all. They were either infested with thrips or had some sort of disease that made the foliage rust and the blooms look absolutely horrible. They were totally unusable. I'm not sure if the bulbs were poor quality (I would be surprised if that was the case since I have always gotten good quality from here before) However, I have grown this variety before and it is a stunner! So much prettier in person than in the picture.

Merchant Response

Thank you for sharing your review with us. We were sorry to hear the Gladiolus Zizane failed to grow as expected, as well as other gladiolus you ordered. We are delighted to let you know we guarantee our merchandise and we will be reaching out to you with a positive resolution.

Each Bloom Is a Surprise!

My Zizanes came out a bit more orange than the picture in the catalog, but each bloom was different and each one was colorful. Worth the investment for a fun plant!

Q
I ordered these last year and got a substitute as for zizzane . Why did you substitute an orange apricot flowered short glad? The bulbs were smaller. Flowers are small. Color disapointing. I ordered online and Suzanne was not listed as out of stock when I ordered or I would not have ordered. Why don't you update your online catalog promptly. I have ordered before. I am very disappointed with your service this time!
Asked by Blah
Verified Reply - AngelaWe are sorry to hear the substitution was not satisfactory. Unfortunately, substitutions are necessary due to circumstances out of our control. However, we want you to be satisfied and will reach out to you by email to provide a positive resolution. We appreciate the opportunity to make this right for you.Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Do gladiolus need to be staked
Asked by Denise
Verified Reply - ViciGladiolus staking will prevent tall gladiolus falling over in a strong wind as the plant matures, or even under the weight of the beautiful blooms. The good news is that staking gladiolus isn’t difficult and won’t take much of your time. Place a stake near the base of the plant. The stake can consist of wood or bamboo. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
I see they are supposed to be around 4' tall when blooming. Are the stalks strong enough to hold the weight, or will I have to stake every one? Any way to make the stalks stronger?
Asked by Dale
Verified Reply - AngelaYou may need to stake the Gladiolus Zizane. You can help stabilize them by planting the bulbs 4 inches deep. You can hill the soil a bit as they grow, but they may still need some support. If you are doing a mass planting, you might look for some flower support netting. Was this answer helpful to you
