Vibrantly colored flowers with soft, quilled petals are sure to delight in the sunny garden. Colorful Decorative Dahlia Mix is a random mix of colors and may include white, yellow, red, pink, purple and other hues. Growing 24-36" tall, decorative dahlias produce more, but smaller blooms than their dinnerplate cousins. The mid-sized flowers are great for fresh-cut bouquets and arrangements. Like other dahlias, decorative dahlias bloom from midsummer to the first frost in the fall. Deer tend to pass them by.

Do not do well in zone 8B. Out of the 250 dahlia bulbs planted (Border Dahlias Mixed, Decorative Dahlia Heatwave, Boarder Decorative Dahlia Go Go Purple, Dark Leafed Sunshine Dahlia )in May, I only was able to harvest 60 flowers worth putting in an arrangement by October 20.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

I received a light lavender and a large coral as 2 of these. the 3rd one has not yet bloomed. I think it did not get enough sun where I planted it. Very happy with the lavender and coral.

Q
WILL DAHLIAS GROW IN STRAIGHT COMPOST?
Asked by FLOWER LOVER
Verified Reply - AngelaIt really depends on the compost. If it's too hot, it can burn roots and cause the rhizomes to rot. Unless it is finished and aged and you know the composition, it's safer to mix it with soil. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I want to plant these dahlias in large pots. I see the advice to plant 24" apart. Does that mean I can only plant one per 18 " diameter pot ?
Asked by LAUREL
Verified Reply - AngelaYes, one Dahlia will fill up an 18 inch pot. Dead head the spent blooms and the plants will keep flowering summer to fall. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
What happens if root was not taken out in winter in zone 6B.
Asked by Ven
Verified Reply - AngelaA dahlia tuber left in the ground for winter in zone 6 will not likely return, but it may. If the winter was mild or the planting site is protected, the dahlia may return this year. If it is going to come back, you should be seeing new foliage emerge very soon.
