Left review that they did not sprout. They finally sprouted after 6 weeks. Slow growing. Hopefully will get flowers this season. Was emailed refund in plant stock but will decline now that they have sprouted. Did plant later in season then usual but ordered late

Unsatisfactory purchase

I ordered oodles of the Double Hanging Basket Apricot Begonia's…maybe around 50 - 80 bulbs (can't remember the exact number) Forty percent of the bulbs did not grow and the other 60 percent was the wrong color. They were dark orangey red. Not the color I wanted in my color scheme. I emailed on this but didn't get a reply. Margaret Turner

Wouldn't Buy Again!

Carefully planted in perfect conditions. One never bloomed and stay very small; the other did bloom, but not impressively. Would not buy them again from this company. To be fair, I've been gardening long enough to know that plants can be pretty weird and surprising in their growing habits, and there's always an element of chance when planting something.

The begonias are still flowering and the color is beautiful. I'll be preparing them for next season by storing them in a frost-free room I have for that purpose. They have been flowering all summer. Great begonia.

Pretty double flowers, but upright and plain red, not aprico

Submitted 2 years ago

By AE

From Atlanta, GA

All bulbs grew pretty, but when the time to flower came the flowers are red, not apricot as advertised. In addition, the plant structure is upright, not fit for hanging baskets.

Pretty, but not what I ordered or expected.

By UrbanAutumn

From Baltimore, MD

I can't necessarily comment on these, because it's not what I received. I received begonias, but red ones with a much looser petal structure. That said, what I received was easy to grow and flowered beautifully. I planted them in June and they flowered Aug-Sept. Of course, they weren't what I ordered though.

Q
Will these tubers reach full bloom within a few weeks of planting? Zone 8. Or are they a perennial and won't really bloom much first year?
Asked by Kelli
Verified Reply - AngelaIt may take up 6 to 8 weeks for the Begonias to bloom after planting. They should bloom nicely the first year planted. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
I placed all 5 of these bulbs (one was dug out by a squirrel) so now the remaining 4 are in a 12" hanging pot - are there too many in that pot? or is that amount ok? and they are in a shade only area - will they sprout? i have ferns and different begonias doing fine in that area currently
Asked by Nikki
Verified Reply - AngelaYour Begonias will be fine as they are planted and should fill out the basket well. Shade is perfect. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I have 10 bulbs,5 per pack-should each bulb be planted in seperate containers or can I plant more than one bulb in each container
Asked by mickey
Verified Reply - ViciYou can plant more than one bulb per container. Plant one begonia per 6-inch pot or two to four begonias in 12-inch hanging baskets, depending on the size and type of the begonia and your desired look. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Is it too late in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area to plant these begonias? Also I would like to have a basket on the patio and it's facing west getting the hottest part of the day. Will they live through the Dallas summer?
Asked by OldGranniegardener
Verified Reply - AngelaIt is not too late to plant Begonia tubers in Texas. They should perform well in your area if they are in full shade. They can tolerate some early morning sun but not hot afternoon sun. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
How do I properly overwinter a hanging begonia?
Asked by Judy
Verified Reply - AngelaTo store Begonias for the winter, dig the bulbs when the foliage has withered or turned brown by a light frost. Air dry in a well-ventilated area for a week. Then remove all soil from the bulbs. Bulbs must be dried before storing or they will rot. Dust the bulbs with a fungicide and store in dry peat moss or wood shavings in a brown paper bag, open crate, netted bag or even old pantyhose. Store at 50–55°F in a dry location until time to replant. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Since this is a bulb, is this a perennial that will winter over if the container is moved inside?
Asked by Karen
Verified Reply - ViciThis is a tender bulb that needs to be brought in for winter. If you choose to move the container indoors, you should put it in a cool dark place and allow it to rest. You can resume watering it in the spring when the weather warms back up.Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Echinacea Mini Belle - If i plant in early May will I get a full 12" hanging plant by August in full bloom?
Asked by Deby
Verified Reply - ViciIt takes a begonia 12 - 14 weeks to bloom. I believe you should have a good sized plant by August in full bloom. Begonias are slow to sprout but once they start to grow, they grow quickly. Was this answer helpful to you
