Double Oriental Lily Magic Star

Double Oriental Lily Magic Star

We love this Double Oriental Lily for what it brings to the landscape in mid to late summer! With a truly unique look that resembles raspberry-pink fireworks, it delights when in full bloom. Magic Star is intensely fragrant and distinctively hued, boasting lush and lovely blooms of pink with red banding and crimson freckling. Each flower features layers of petals that are gently ruffled with slightly waved edges. It makes a gorgeous addition to summertime borders, mixed container gardens and fresh floral arrangements, too. Like other Oriental types, Magic Star is hardy in zones 3-8 and thrives in sun to part shade. For best results, plant in well-drained soil.

The jury is still out…

I'm hoping it's just because it was their first year, but they were not exactly as full as the flowers in the website pictures. They would get a few petals at a time, but petals were dying on the outside before the inner petals opened. They did flower a little later than the regular lilies, so I'm hoping that maybe they just got a late start in their first year.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Oriental LILY FANATIC

From ZONE 5A

Purchased these three years ago. I am a 5 year novice at growing oriental lilies. I sell these as fresh cut flowers roadside. I allow my customers to view the flowers and cut what they want. They didn't flower very well till the fourth year. very nice display blooms lasted for 2 1/2 weeks with roughly 5 to 6 blooms per plant. The height was over 3 feet. I am finding it's best to not allow them to bloom if they only have 2-3 blooms remove the flower buds to strengthen the bulb. I do this with all my Orientals, and its yielding, good results.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Such a disappointment, was so looking forward to these in bloom, only had 2 very very small deformed blooms that never opened. 3 bulbs came up actually 4 but one never made it past 3 inches and died.

Q
I live in zone 7….I see that these ship in late February. When would I plant and would I get a flowering this year in July or would it take a year before flowering? Thanks!
Asked by Wendy
Verified Reply - ViciLily bulbs should be planted as soon as you can once you receive them. As long as the ground is not frozen they can be planted. They will bloom this season probably around July. The first year they may only have one flower per bulb. They will not grow to their full height or have a good show of flowers until about their third year. Was this answer helpful to you
