Add drama to shade gardens and other shaded spaces with this outstanding caladium. Freida Hemple features red, heart-shaped leaves with soft green borders. Whether massed together or as an accent with other plants, it's stunning. Grown specifically for their ornamental foliage, caladiums are tender perennials that can enhance almost any shady area, from patios and decks to shaded corners of the garden. Growing 12-18" tall, they can be grown in patio pots or the garden. They're excellent for shaded window boxes where sun-loving annuals won't grow. Caladium Freida Hemple is also ideal for a conservatory or warm porch during the winter months.

Doing Great in All Soil Types in the Southeast

Submitted 6 years ago

By dkumpula

From Fort Mill, SC

These plants arrived in good condition and every single one (out of 50 total) came up happy and healthy. I planted these in multiple locations in late Spring with soil ranging from clay soil, to raised beds with good soil to pots with potting soil. Sun ranged from part shade to full shade. Watering varied in each location. The plants look equally happy in all planting locations/conditions. The deer which visit my property nightly have left these alone.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

VEry dramatic, easy care. I've got them in a couple of bunches alongside my sidewalk (north side of the house; 1 - 2 hours of sun?) and under a gingko near the street. Unfortunately the deer have nibbled on the ones away from the house, but between predations of those they look great. And the other ones are super.
