I'm not sure how anyone gave them less than 5 stars!

The bulbs were beautiful and had babies attached…a lot of babies. Free bulbs! I want to say that I had 100% growth…but I didn't count. I will say that I had a ton of babies…again, not very scientific. I got beautiful colors and they will come back year after year. I have been buying several hundred every year and I am never disappointed!

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

2.5/5 - Dismal first year, somewhat OK thereafter

These bulbs I tried with a little skepticism about arrival time which turned out to be justified, since here in southwestern California they naturalize very well - there is no way that this bulb should ship in spring to the Pacific Southwest, because it normally emerges late August into October and grows thru the fall - bloom begins in February and is mostly over by the end of March, tho some potted ones in cool spots may linger into the first week of April. Planted in March, none flowered the first year, and only about half sprouted at all. The following August, about half came up - don't know if it was the ones the sprouted or if some just waited. They bloomed and began to multiply by both new bulbs and seeding the second spring. The seedlings are mostly if not entirely yellow, but reds, whites, lavenders, purples and pinks are all spreading by bulb now. The company should consider serving the West Coast by shipping freesias, as well as daffs and Dutch irises, during late August and early September - I never know how any will really be given that their ship times are not correct for this region.

Q
When these flowers are delivered, are they already bloomed?
Asked by Esmi
Verified Reply - ViciThe Freesia Mix is shipped as dormant bulbs. They will begin to grow once you plant them. Freesia bulbs typically bloom 10 to 12 weeks after planting. The flowers will last for at least six weeks. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
This plant and others are listed as "Perennial" in Zone 4, but the instructions say they have to be "Lifted". Are they classified as perennial because the roots can be the next year? And, if the plant is one that blooms the second year or begins to spread the third year, does lifting them mean the time frame re-starts every year? For example, does lifting them roots annually means they plant never reach the next stage of maturity? Thanks very much - I appreciate the education!
Asked by Bees on Earth Master Gardener
Verified Reply - AngelaFreesia is a tender perennial. The bulbs can be grown in all zones but those in colder regions will need to lift the bulbs for winter. The bulbs can be stored in a frost free location and planted again in the spring. They mature during the growing season each year. Lifting them for the dormant season doesn't negatively impact their growth. Was this answer helpful to you

I'm in zone 9a. I was planning to overwinter Freesias in my greenhouse, but these ship in the spring. If I plant in the spring will I still get long enough stems for cutting?
Asked by Robin
Verified Reply - ViciI am sorry but I don't have any information about planting Freesia in California. You might check with your local garden club or county extension office as they are most familiar with your growing conditions. These bulbs would come back year after year in your zone. Was this answer helpful to you
