Darwin Hybrid Tulip Mix

Darwin Hybrid Tulip Mix

100%
of respondents would recommend this to a friend
Classically shaped, brightly colored flowers brighten walkways and flowerbeds in mid to late spring. Darwin Hybrid Tulip Mix is a random mix of colors and may include red, pink, white, yellow and other hues. Darwin hybrids are often considered the quintessential tulip type. They feature the traditional egg-shaped flowers and bold colors. Growing 20-26" tall on sturdy stems, they're favorites for cut-flower arrangements and bouquets, too. For the biggest impact, plant tulips bulbs in groups. Tulip bulbs perform best when planted in well-drained soil and in full sun to partial shade.

We're enjoying them

Those without chicken wire or hardware cloth protecting them were beheaded and eaten by wildlife, but that's typical for tulips. That's not the fault of the plant. It's that deer and rabbits and rodents find tulips to be yummy treats. The remainder, fortunately the majority, are now protected by chicken wire. I'd kind of planned that they'd be a cutting garden flower for me, and planted them in a garden in the back yard. I'm cutting them for the house once the buds are showing color, and they're opening very nicely inside. So far, several are 'Pink Impression.' When I see them, I think, "That's such a nice flower." I think at least one of the Darwin Hybrid tulips is 'Cool Pink Lemonade.' A couple are 'Candy Apple Red,' I believe, though the petals start out pink with a white picotee. The center of the petals seems to be getting darker as the flowers mature. One of the Darwin Hybrid tulips is 'Triple A,' which looks spectacular in a cobalt blue glass set by a vase that has 'Generaal de Wet' tulips in it. My father and I have both at separate times taken my mother over to the dining room table where the groupings of tulips in vases and glass cups are, and said, "Look how pretty they are."
