A great variety for edging shaded walkways or brightening perennial beds, Hosta Albo marginata features emerald-green leaves edged in white. Its fragrant, lavender flowers open above the foliage in late summer to early fall. Growing 18-24" tall, this popular hosta is ideal for naturalizing, providing sparkling color for years. Hosta lilies, sometimes called "Plantain" or "Heart Lilies," are some of the best perennials for shade and woodland gardens. These shade-loving perennials are tolerant of a wide variety of soil types, but prefer well-drained soil.

Growing Tips

  • Planting Instructions:

    Soak roots in cold to lukewarm water for about 30 minutes. Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots without bending them. Firm soil around roots and water in well.
  • Soil Moisture:

    Tolerant of a wide range of soils, but best in well drained.
  • Will Tolerate:

    Acidic Soil, Clay Soil, Loamy Soil, Sandy Soil
  • Pruning Instructions:

    Remove spent flower stems to tidy up the plants for the rest of the growing season.
  • Winter Care:

    Mulch +/- 2" for the first winter. Remove promptly in early spring.
  • Planting Depth:

    Top of the root (eyes) should be just below soil level.
  • Watering Requirements:

    Average water needs. Water regularly, do not overwater.

We take advanced orders, and as the crops are harvested, our staff of K. van Bourgondien experts makes an on-the-spot selection of the finest bulbs available to fill those reservations.

I left my order sitting around the garage for weeks until I got around to putting them in the ground. Nonetheless, when I got them in the ground and watered daily, almost all sprouted and are good-sized for a month-old planting.
