Tazetta Daffodil Grand Primo

Tazetta Daffodil Grand Primo

Early, multi-flowering daffodil adds charm to borders, rock gardens, containers and cut-flower displays. Each stem holds multiple pale yellow flowers with darker cups. Tazetta Daffodil Grand Primo is also excellent for naturalizing and reliably comes back year after year. Growing 14-18" tall, it blooms in early to mid spring. Daffodils look best when planted in groups and make a big impact when massed. For the best garden performance, plant daffodil bulbs in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Deer tend to pass them by.

Huge bulbs

The bulbs arrived and were huge! I wasn't expecting such huge bulbs for the price. When they bloomed, there were about 4 that were yellow. I ordered white. I did not have time this year to remove those but will probably do it next year. They also bloomed earlier than the other paperwhites I have that live nearby.

I often plant late so I can draw out the season. The last few of these are about to finish. Flowers in May, not bad for the South. The ones planted the season before also did great.

Beautiful and reliable Southern favorite

The Grand Primo Narcissus has received renewed interest among Southern gardeners seeking to add heirloom plants to their landscape that can tolerate our particular weather. I had sought these out but hesitated due to the prices. I was pleasantly surprised to discover them here last year. I didn't hesitate and bought at least four bags, if I remember correctly. They almost all came up. Let me tell you, these are stout plants with thick, dark green leaves and beautiful, long lasting blooms. The foliage lasted well into the spring. I would definitely plant them somewhere you can tolerate the late wilting of this hearty plant. I lined my long driveway with these plants and had to make judicious use of the string trimmer a tad longer than I wanted, lol. At the first sign of yellowing, I had to trim them down. But what a problem to have. It is now November 1, and in the last few weeks, I have begun to see the foliage of some of these begin to peak out again, much to my surprise. At least I will have some color over the winter other than brown. A previous reviewer mentioned their disappointment that these plants resembled their Erlicheer. From everything I've read, Erlicheer is pretty much the double form of Grand Primo, so I wasn't surprised to so that. I have Erlicheer, as well, and can confirm the two look very similar in the landscape. If you want a hearty narcissus to anchor your winter spring landscape, look no further than Grand Primo.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Q
The web page for this tazetta daffodil says Winter Hardiness Zones 4-9. I don't believe this one is hardy that far north. I think that the winter hardiness zone is more like zones 8-10. Could you check on this and correct the web page if needed? Thank you.
Asked by Emilie
Verified Reply - AngelaHi. Thanks for checking with us about the hardiness zone for Grand Primo Tazetta Daffodil. I did verify that we are suggesting these bulbs for USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 9. We have customers successfully growing them in the colder zones. These are a bit hardier than the paperwhites. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
Planted 500 in Ohio garden. First year, nice bloom. Second year only healthy leaves and not a single bloom.
Asked by Jay X
Verified Reply - ViciThere are a few reasons that your daffodils did not bloom. If you trimmed the leaves back before they died on their own they would not have had time to feed the bulb for the next year's bloom. If you have your daffodils in a spot were you fertilize with a fertilizer with too much nitrogen, that could cause them to grow more leaves at the expense of flowers. You need a fertilizer with a higher middle number like 5-10-5. Flowering bulbs need at least 6 hours of full sun each day to bloom properly. If they’re receiving less than that, they’ll complain by not putting on as big of a show. Was this answer helpful to you
