Single Mexican Tuberose

Single Mexican Tuberose

of respondents would recommend this to a friend
Delightful, small, waxy white flowers add a bit of the tropics to the summer garden. Single Mexican Tuberose features fragrant flowers that attract pollinators during the summer months. It's also a superb cut flower. The fragrance of tuberose has long been used in perfumes to provide soft middle notes that linger. This seductive aroma has made tuberose one of the most sought-after blooms for fragrant cutting gardens and as a border plant. Though native to Mexico, tuberose performs very well in sunny northern landscapes. Lovely spikes of soft flowers appear in early summer and retain their beauty and sweet perfume all season long.

All foliage, no flowers

Submitted 2 years ago

I planted these in the spring and over the summer they grew a lot of unattractive foliage, but now well into September still no flower spikes. Waste of potting soil and time.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Buy this plant!

From vienna, va

I have grown tuberoses in virginia, just outside the Washington DC beltway for about 25 years. I think that I bought them here? The bulbs didn't look like much the first spring I planted them, but I fertilized with bone meal and hoped for the best. I did get flowers the first year! My Great Grandmother in North Carolina left hers in the ground all winter In my more northern garden I dig mine up, leave them in the chunk of mostly clay that comes up with them, stick them in paper grocery bags, and leave them, leaves and all, to dry out in a dark crawl space for the winter. After last frost they return to the garden. When the flowers start to open, you can cut the stalks put them in a vase, and the buds will open gradually over the next few evenings, the fragrance is beyond description.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Q
Is this a perennial
Asked by Florence
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Single Mexican Tuberose is a tender perennial. It can be grown in all zones across the country. Those in colder zones 3 to 7 will need to dig up the bulbs and store them in a frost free location for winter. They can be planted again in the spring after the danger of frost has passed. Was this answer helpful to you
