Pineapple Lily

Pineapple Lily

100%
of respondents would recommend this to a friend
Totally unique in form, and an award winner to boot, eye-catching Pineapple Lily attracts plenty of much-wanted attention to borders and container gardens. Plus, it can also be grown indoors as a show-stopping houseplant, and overwinters nicely. Its single stem bears an abundance of star-shaped, pale green florets edged in dark purple. It is crowned by a rosette of short leaves tops the flower spike, giving it the look of a pineapple. A conversation starter in the making.

I had one of these for 4 years and it was so unusual and eye catching. The severe cold this winter killed it. Ordering more now.

Q
I bought these and 3 of the 5 bloomed and they looked great. I planted outside rather than indoors. How should I care for the spent bulbs? I would like to save to rebloom next year or possibly replant to keep indoors in the winter. Is that possible?
Asked by Kimberly
Verified Reply - AngelaThe bulbs need a period of dormancy. Just lift them from the ground once the leaves are brown or at the first frost. Allow them to dry for about a week. You can store them in a brown paper bag in a cool and dry location that does not go below 32 F or above 50 F. You can plant them outside again after all danger of frost has passed. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Planted the bulbs a few weeks ago. Not sprouting yet. When should I expect to see fro begin?
Asked by Experimental Gardener
Verified Reply - AngelaIt can take up to six weeks for the pineapple lily to emerge depending on soil temperatures. This is a late summer to fall bloomer and is in no hurry to wake up.Was this answer helpful to you
