Introducing a very special hibiscus to brighten up late-season gardens or highlight a landscape focal point. Holy Grail is deep and mysterious, with nearly black foliage and dark, rich red blooms that grow to an impressive 8-9" wide. Once the beautiful flowers have finished their season, vivid green calyxes take their place, contrasting nicely with the dark foliage. Butterflies and other beneficial pollinators will flock to the award-winning flowers throughout the growing season. For best results, plant in a well-drained area with consistent moisture. PP31478

Just WOW

Submitted 7 months ago

Ordered a pile of these one year, only 1 came up. I sent a note with pictures to customer service, and they sent me a refund. K is wonderful about their products. I wanted a wall of Hibiscus in front of my house, so I order another pile of them. I planted the next batch in a bit more of a protected area. In the spring, they ALL started to sprout. I moved them out to the front walk and now it's amazing. I've had over a dozen people stop by and ask about these plants. They are absolutely showstoppers.

Q
I just received my roots and currently the overnight low temps are in the high 20s. The ground is still workable during the day but I do not want to kill the roots with the overnight freezes. Should I plant in the ground now or plant in pots for the winter and put them in the ground in the spring?
Asked by Kevin
Verified Reply - AngelaPlease go right ahead and plant your Hibiscus Holy Grail roots now, regardless of the air temperatures. The plant will work on establishing roots until the ground freezes solid and be ready to grow in the spring. We suggest applying a thick layer of mulch over the planting site when the ground approaches freezing. This will help prevent heaving out of the ground due. It also marks the planting spot so the roots don't get disturbed during spring clean up. Don't panic in the spring, these plants emerge very late in the season. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I want to plant 12 Holy Grail Hibiscus in front of a concrete block wall that faces East. However, since I live in zone 9b , I'm concerned about the heat radiating from the wall when temperatures are in triple digits. Will they be able to sustain that?
Asked by Mary
Verified Reply - AngelaI think you are right to be concerned. The Hibiscus Holy Grail is suggested for USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 9. You are at the very edge of the spectrum for heat tolerance and planting next to concrete walls will definitely increase heat intensity. However, an east wall that receives afternoon shade should be fine if the plants are mulched well and the soil is kept moist. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Do deer eat the buds or the plant?
Asked by Pat
Verified Reply - AngelaWe consider the Hibiscus Holy Grail to be deer resistant. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I purchased Hibiscus Holy Grail last year, received in the beginning of Nov.23 I planted all 3 roots in ground as soon as I got them because I really look forward to see them grow. I live in the central Maine, zone 5. Now it is mid-july, the outside temperatures are between high 60's - high 80's. My question is when do they start budding? I still don't see anything growing out of the stems or budding from the ground. This is my first time growing Hibiscus, please advise, thank you
Asked by Bella's mom in Maine
Verified Reply - AngelaIf you have stems and leaves on your Holy Grail Hibiscus, the flowers will come. They are midsummer to fall bloomers. Blooming may be a sparse the first year but they usually give you a little show. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I see this ships in the fall, in reading other sites they suggest planting hibiscus in the spring after threat if frost. We already have some snow, its not sticking, but wondering if the plant will survive if I plant now that ground is freezing?
Asked by Muffy
Verified Reply - ViciThis plant can be planted as long as the ground is not frozen. If it arrives after the ground is frozen you could plant it in a pot and put it in an unheated garage or shed to protect it from the coldest winter temperatures and then plant it in the ground in the spring. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Can I order this plant now and plant in the late spring?
Asked by Lionel
Verified Reply - ViciAt this time this is a fall shipped item. It will not hold until spring. You could plant it in a pot, put it in an unheated garage or shed and plant it out in the spring. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Can this plant be grown in a large pot?
Asked by Allen
Verified Reply - AngelaYou can grow the Hibiscus Holy Grail in a large pot. Just be sure the pot has drainage holes. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I have ordered, recieved and planted 12 hibiscus. I need 3 more but I want 3 different varieties. What I see on your website is one order that contains three plants of same variety. AnywY to get 3 different varieties?
Asked by WilliM
Verified Reply - AngelaAt this time, you would need to order each one individually to get three different varieties. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Can this Hibiscus be potted for growth as an indoor plant? What other Hibiscus species would you recommend for indoor plants?
Asked by Suzanne
Verified Reply - ViciThis is an herbaceous perennial hibiscus that needs to be outdoors to experience the cold winter temperatures. You need to purchase a tropical hibiscus plant if you want to keep it indoors as a houseplant. Unfortunately we do not carry that variety. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
If I plant these hibiscus in doors in pots what is the minimum temperature they can with stand?
Asked by Greg
Verified Reply - AngelaWe suggest planting your Hibiscus Holy Grail in the ground when it arrives this fall. They will spend this time establishing a root system and be ready to grow in the spring. If you are planning to grow them in pots, you can plant them in the pots outdoors and move them into an unheated garage or shed when temperatures reach freezing. Move them outside again in the early spring. Be patient because these plants are one of the last to appear in the late spring. Was this answer helpful to you
