Ground Cover Phlox Ruby Riot

Ground Cover Phlox Ruby Riot

Front borders, presentation beds and pollinator gardens certainly benefit from a fine carpet of pink, free-flowering ground cover in spring. Not only does Ruby Riot add a touch of beauty and tons of color, it also covers unsightly bare spaces in between plantings—even in poor, dry or sandy soil. This ground cover phlox bursts onto the scene in mid spring with a flurry of petite, reddish-pink flowers with dark eyes. A vigorous grower, it provides plenty of blooms for the many pollinators and butterflies it attracts. Drought tolerant.

Q
What does Phlox Ruby Riot look like when not in bloom?
Asked by Carter
Verified Reply - AngelaGround Cover Phlox Ruby Riot is a semi evergreen ground cover. It has somewhat deep green needle like foliage. It is low growing and weed smothering. If watered during hot dry periods, it remains attractive until very late in the winter here in zone 6. It rebounds right back to beautiful green in the very early spring and then begins the amazing flowering period in mid to late spring. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
i live in zone 9 and have an area where i would like to cover the area 84 sq. ft. sq.ft looks like a small island. shape. elongated. on this plot already exist a palm which i would like to keep and 2 small hedges that will go somewhere else. prior to my purchasing the house previous owner planted a Mexican petunia and started spreading everywhere finally got it under control and removed what a job i want to make sure the ground cover Phlox Ruby Riot won't have the same problem. 2nd is there another color that can be blended in to add a color your opinion
Asked by Patrick A
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Phlox Ruby Riot will spread but is very easy to contain with occasional pruning or cutting back. I would suggest planting something that blooms later in the season. Something a little taller planted in clumps around the bed. Take a look at Eryngium Big Blue. It's suited for your zone, drought tolerant and blooms in Summer after the phlox are finished blooming. https://www.dutchbulbs.com/product/eryngium-big-blue-Was this answer helpful to you
Q

Asked by Karen M.
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Ground Cover Phlox is suggested for USDA Hardiness Zones 4-9. You appear to be gardening in zone 8. They should perform very well in your garden. You will want to keep them watered while getting established and during the hot summer months. Was this answer helpful to you
