Grape Hyacinth Bulbs (Muscari armeniacum)

Grape Hyacinth Bulbs (Muscari armeniacum)

94%
of respondents would recommend this to a friend
An early blooming flower, Grape Hyacinth bulbs provide gardens with bright blue, bell-shaped flowers in grape-like clusters, about 6-8 inches tall. Grape Hyacinths (Muscari armeniacum) are ideal for borders, rock gardens, containers, naturalizing and co-planting with tulips or daffodils. The fragrant Muscari armeniacum flowers attract pollinators, too. If left undisturbed, they multiply rapidly. For the biggest impact, plant Grape Hyacinth bulbs in large groups. These bulbs can also be forced for indoor blooming. Muscari armeniacum bulbs perform best when planted in well-drained soil and in full sun to partial shade. Deer also tend to avoid Grape Hyacinth Flowers.

We purchased hundreds to create a swath, planted them carefully, best rains here in California, and while everything else was blooming profusely, not one muscari came up!

Critter proof

These are one of the few plants critters won't eat and completely ruin. The fence is to protect the Blue Heaven tulips. Grape Hyacinths have such a beautiful color in early spring. They're in full bloom in late April here in NJ.

The bulbs were a nice size, I did not get nearly as many flowers as I expected but most of them came up so hopefully next year will be a better showing.

Deer ate them.

These would have been lovely if the deer in my neighborhood hadn't eaten them. So sad. The deer ate the green leaves AND the flowers.
