Decorative Dahlia American Dawn

Decorative Dahlia American Dawn

75%

The American Dawn dahlia is a stunner both coming and going. The front of this sumptuous bloom features layer upon layer of pretty, peach-coral petals. But look on the back of each petal and you'll see a delightful plum-streaked reverse that gives American Dawn that "certain something" not found in many other dahlia varieties. We love to see these dinnerplate-size blooms in large groups, used as a background plant to shorter summertime perennials. Try them in a sunny border, cutting garden or as a focal point planting. Dahlias are not winter hardy, but simply lifting them in fall in zones 3-8 will preserve them for the next year.

Like other reviewer, I got another variety altogether

I'm giving them 2 stars because the tubers produced healthy. plants, but the color is nothing like American Dawn. I'll be requesting a refund.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Color is WAY off for mine

Submitted 3 years ago

By Aisha M.

From New Hampshire

I actually had to go back to make sure I ordered the variety I though I had. My bulbs were healthy, plants are green and sturdy. But when I look at other reviewer's photos I am so disappointed. Mine all flowered a very muted almost beige color. Not the vibrant shades I see in other photos. I have them planted in different locations and all are blooming that same color, so I don't think it is the conditions or that I did something wrong, but maybe??

Beautiful color and many blooms!!

From Minnesota

I wanted to try something new, so I chose American Dawn Dahlia. I was very happy -- it took awhile, but once it started blooming, it was prolific into the fall. I brought flowers into work to share with others and they couldn't believe it was "real" because the blooms were so perfect!

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

This dahlia is a stunner! So happy I ordered two. I wish I would have received them a bit earlier, because we have such a short growing season in Minnesota, and I like to start these early inside. But they still have produced amazing late season blooms. I cut them regularly and bring them in to work and share the beauty with many others who can't believe how perfect these blooms are. I would definitely recommend these! I was supposed to get two tubers and the bags had more, so I have a nice, healthy, thick growth with so many beautiful blooms.
