Chinese Lantern

Chinese Lantern

Presenting a highly ornamental perennial that's prized for its unique, eye-catching seedpods. Chinese Lantern produces plenty of 1-1½" white flowers with yellow stamens in the mid weeks of summer, but it's the winsome inflated seed coverings that follow that really cause a stir. Plant Chinese Lantern along walkways or in a decorative container to create a charming display of color and style. A fast growing perennial for the landscape. Deer tend to avoid.

Q
Dwhat happens to it if it freezes? Or we go into 20s. Im in Tampa Florida, 33613. Mine Blooms year round its in 1/2 & 1/2 sun shade. In a pot it's about 6 or 7 ft tall and has weeping branches, that im afraid to prune them. It is a spindly tree. But gorgeous.
Asked by Mary
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Chinese Lantern is a perennial in USDA Hardiness Zones 3 to 9. The plant will go dormant during freezing temperatures and grow back from the roots in spring. Pruning it back in the late winter should encourage more new growth. Was this answer helpful to you
