Astilbe 'Black and Blue'

Astilbe 'Black and Blue'

Plumes of airy inflorescence in shades of deep, dark purple with bluish highlights add interest, color and flair to the darker areas of the landscape. Black and Blue is our newest astilbe variety, and one we're sure your customers will love. Visually striking in both form and hue, it gives definition to shady sites and makes them stand out…instead of blending in. Ideal for those darkened corners of butterfly gardens, sun-dappled borders or between shrubbery. Plant in well-drained, moist soil.

Q
When to plant?
Asked by Sam
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Astilbe Black and Blue will be shipped in the spring and should be planted upon arrival. Dormant bareroots can be planted as long as the soil is workable. There is no need to wait for the last frost date. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Would these bloom the first year after planting?
Asked by PJO
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Astilbe Black and Blue may or may not bloom the first year planted. Like all perennials, they spend most of their energy developing a root system the first year. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Question regarding ability to grow astilbe in zone 9B. Some websites list zone 9 some sites do not this variety is only hardy to zone 8. Would like a better idea as to how this plant will grow. Thank you
Asked by Maggie
Verified Reply - AngelaWe only suggest the Astilbe Black and Blue up to USDA Hardiness Zone 8. We expect zone 9b to be too hot for the plant to perform well. Was this answer helpful to you
