Daylily Stella d'Oro

Daylily Stella d'Oro

Stella d'Oro is the most popular daylily available—and with good reason. This yellow daylily starts blooming in June and keeps reblooming until fall. It's hands-down, the longest blooming daylily in existence. Each plant produces masses of golden yellow, ruffled flowers that attract pollinators. Stella d'Oro Daylily is one of the earliest daylilies to start blooming. Because it is low maintenance, adapts to a range of bloom times and has such a long flowering season, it's very popular among landscapers. A dwarf daylily variety, it also grows well in containers. For best results, plant daylilies in full sun to partial shade.

Botanical Name: Hemerocallis 'Stella de Oro'

Yellow stems and mushy roots upon arrival

Submitted 3 years ago

By KAH

From PA

Fed Ex delivered the 15 stellas I ordered 8 days after leaving the nursery. What I got was 8 with yellow stems/leaves and mushy roots. 7 seemed still viable. I planted all, but only 6 of the 7 survived. The mushy 8 didn't make it. Less than 50%.

Simply Beautiful

From Stone Mountain, GA

I ordered 3 packs of these beauties this spring. I was extremely happy when I received them. They were large, very healthy and packaged so nicely. I planted them along the walkway to my deck. They are already blooming and the flowers are a lot larger than I expected. Each of the plants already have buds or flowers on them. I am so pleased I found this company.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Q
My Stella's are a foot around and are not producing a lot of flowers what should I do? Need information on them
Asked by Sharon
Verified Reply - AngelaIt's probably time to divide them as they have become overcrowded. Most daylily plants need to be divided every three to five years. To divide daylilies, you’ll need to dig up the plants, divide them into sections, and replant them. You can spread your daylilies out, plant the divided starts in a new location, or give them away. The best time to divide daylilies is either early spring, before the plants have begun to grow, or late fall, after the blooming season. You’ll need a shovel or spade, and a sharp dividing tool or pair of scissors. Dig up the entire root system and split into sections that have at least three stems and a healthy amount of roots. Replant as soon as possible. Q
I live in South Florida and want to plant Daylily Stella d'Oro on the north side of my townhouse. This means that from about October to early April they will be in the shade all day, and from April to September full sun. Do you recommend Stella d'Oro or some other plant? Thanks
Asked by tac123
Verified Reply - ViciThis plant is recommended to zone 9. It would be too hot in zone 10 for this plant. Be sure to make sure that the plants that you choose are recommended to grow to zone 10 especially in full sun.Was this answer helpful to you

Q
How do you store the roots for the winter? I was given a large group of flowers. Is it too late to plan in WI? It is suppose to freeze Tuesday night.
Asked by None
Verified Reply - AngelaYou won't be able to store the bareroots for winter. You can plant them in the soil now before the ground freezes. You can also put them in pots and store the pots in an unheated garage or basement for winter. If stored in pots, water in well and leave outside until hard frost arrives. After you move them to storage, they will not need light and only light watering about once a month to keep the soil from drying out completely. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I think specifications is what I want to know. I would like to know how many bulbs I would need to cover both sides of my side walk. It is 5'51" long. Also are the Stella d'Oro reblumbing?
Asked by MISSMC
Verified Reply - AngelaI am not sure I understand the length of the sidewalk. You are going to plant your bulbs 18 to 24 inches apart. I would plant three or four bulbs to cover 5 feet. Stella D'Oro will start blooming in June and keep reblooming until fall. It's a fantastic plant. Was this answer helpful to you
