Muscari azureum

Muscari azureum

75%
of respondents would recommend this to a friend
Lovely sky-blue flower spikes with darker blue veins open in mid to late spring. In cultivation since 1859, Muscari azureum adds refreshing blue tones to container plantings, borders, rock gardens, naturalized areas or when co-planted with tulips or daffodils. For the biggest impact, plant muscari in large groups or drifts. If left undisturbed, muscari multiplies rapidly. Growing 6-8" tall, muscari bulbs can also be forced for indoor blooming. Muscari bulbs perform best when planted in well-drained soil and in full sun to partial shade. Deer tend to avoid.

I planted them in groups in two different spots. They lasted quite a long time and were a delight in the early spring.

Special and Unique

By Elaina

Very unique form. Extremely tiny and shorter than expected. I recommend planting in large quantities for a big impact. Otherwise if you're like me you like to try a bit of everything and have daily strolls in your spring garden looking for new blooms! Very fun little bulb!

More unique shape and color than typical muscari

Submitted 4 years ago

By Carly

From Indiana

Planted and fertilized in the fall. Out of all the Muscari varieties I had, these came up and bloomed first and early in the spring. The shape is unique and the color true. Had teenie stripes on each little flower in the cone cluster. Very happy with them so far this first spring.

I wish I would have planted more of them together to make a stronger statement, but the flower is very sweet. Plan on adding more this fall.

Better in pictures

The bulbs looked great, but most of their blooms had some kind of bud rot. The ones that bloomed had a nice color, but they did not perform as expected. Maybe next year they will have a better blooming period. They bloomed first out of my muscari.
