I have been with flowers all my life,(60 years) I seen this in the catolog this spring and found a special place for it, and could not wait to see it come up, I planted it with the rest of my bulbs, but not even came out of the ground, I finally dug it up to see if the root is alive, It was alive but a sprout was about 2 inches long.no I would not buy this again

Other canna did well....very well! These not so good. Quite frankly l expected better quality not only with this plant but the rest of my order. The only reason to return this year is to cash in my credit. Sorry I can't be more positive.

Website photos do not do this gorgeous plant justice!

First off, from the 3-pack one rhizome was rotten but KVB took care of me on that (thanks!). The 2 that are growing are gorgeous (summer is just beginning), and I have some tips. I noticed that if you grow them in sun (even part-sun, 3-4h) the leaves end up mostly green, plus any white bits do burn. Switch them to shade and OMG, new leaves are just gorgeous. Mine now get less than 1-2h sun (north facing balcony, zone 6B), and the leaves are the most pretty things I have ever seen. Each one is a work of art. I honestly got these for the leaves and could not care less about flowers (the Stuttgart flowers look an ugly weak orange anyway from the website photos). So shade is the perfect spot for what I want. They also are growing up a storm with no obvious stunting from lack of sunlight (currently 3ft and still growing fast). Each rhizome has also produced multiple stalks (2-3 each). KVB are shooting themselves in the feet with the current website photos where the boring flowers are obscuring the amazing leaves. I wholeheartedly give 2 big thumbs-up to this product.

Q&A

Q
I understand cannas are edible, and a good potato substitute. Since I'm allergic to potato's, edibility appeals to me. Do you have any information indicating which colors of bloom or foliage might tend to be tastier? I like the idea of a beautiful dual purpose plant. Also, are your bare-root cannas treated with any substances such as fungicides that might make it unwise to eat them in their first year or so?
Asked by Lyda
Verified Reply - AngelaOur Canna Lilies are not certified organic and should not be eaten as they may have been treated. They are offered as ornamentals. I'm sorry I don't have any information about the flavors of different Cannas and I wasn't able to locate a reliable source of information online. Was this answer helpful to you
