Giant Blooms for Months

Submitted 6 months ago

By Chicago City Gardener

From Chicago

I bought 2 Dinnerplate Fleurel tubers not sure of how these would do, an to my surprise the are amazing bloomers! I'm going into October in Zone 6a, and they're still producing flowers. I've created so many arrangements from these, and they're stunning. I'm getting 7 inch blooms on some of them. They're gorgeous, and I love them more than some of the bolder dinner plate varieties.

Magnificent white form…

Good growth, plentiful blooms, EXCELLENT form Relatively weak stems are holding it back from 5 stars. I found it important to find the right vase to support the stem & flower…otherwise the bloom "droops". It's a KNOCKOUT to cut the stem short and float in a shallow bowl.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Large Romantic Blossoms

Fleurel was a showstopper. Every tuber planted grew into a highly productive plant with enormous perfect blooms. Non stop from July to late October when the frost came. They were planted in loose and fertile soil and in addition, I fertilized them with a granular once during the peak production. We used them in my daughters wedding and everyone commented on how beautiful they were. I just lifted the tubers and was surprised to find them smaller than some of the more diminutive varieties. But with all the energy it put into blossoms I can see why that might be.

Fleurel measured about 48-60" tall and generated an abundance of blossoms! It was the first to flower and is still going strong (10/24 in MA, USA)!
