Disappointing first year..

After giving an honest review of the my bulb order and performance - I was contacted and offered a refund on my bulb purchase. I was pleased to receive this and look forward to applying the credit to a future purchase at Dutch bulbs original review- I ordered 25 bulbs - most all of them came up and developed good foliage. Only had two buds that actually produced flowers (2 each) and they were small at 1/2" diameter. Hoping that they will produce more flowers next year. Be aware that these are a petite flower and that these need to be planted where you can see them up close.

I'm in Zone 5 Colorado. Planted an experimental batch of these in Fall 2023, in a fenced backyard with part sun; in a mixture of fairly rich garden soil, with lots of expanded shale for drainage. First season bloom is just outstanding. Colors are exactly as pictured; very cheerful and dense. What's amazing is how hardy these are. So far, they've survived two snowstorms and one 50mph windstorm. Still blooming after 3 weeks, I think I'll get at least a month's bloom total! Will be planting more of these in fall 2024.

If there was ever a daffodil that should bear the name adorable, this would be the one! They were true to both color and form in the photo. They bloomed at the same time as dwarf iris Alida and grape hyacinths. What a sweet show it was indeed!

Such a pretty daffodil, like little clusters of sunshine. These were planted in the week between Christmas and New Year's Day in Zone 6a, and they came up beautifully this spring. Great healthy bulbs.

A little crowded, I know, but they look really lovely next to tete-a-tete daffs (which are in the foreground).

They do really well in part shade.

Pretty little blooms that are very hardy. A late freeze ,snow did not faze them at all. Every bulb produced a showy bloom.

Dainty but Hardy

Submitted 1 year ago

By Herbalm8den

Blooming here in Zone 6B from the end of March to mid April in their 2nd year. This year they've grown twice as full on top of sturdy long lasting and heavily fragranced blossoms. Planted along with purple grape hyacinths make a perfect color pairing. Thriving in full sun in a very open unprotected area that has had 25 MPH wind gusts and freezing rain and it hasn't bothered them a bit.

Unbearably cute

I was completely unprepared for just how tiny these daffodils are. I didn't realize daffodils came in such a tiny size! Every time I walk outside, I just melt looking at them. On a more practical note: they had the highest sprouting rate of any of the bulbs I put in this year, and they are performing very well in full sun, part shade, and dappled shade locations. They started blooming only about 4 days after my early crocuses. (I am in zone 4a.)

Q
The bloom time was short. Will they bloom again through out the spring and summer ? Should I cut the flowers ?
Asked by Lori
Verified Reply - ViciYou can cut the stalks of spent flowers once they have faded but it is not necessary. Cutting the flowers will prevent them from using energy to develop seed pods and they will use the energy towards nourishing the bulb for next year's blooms. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
Is this hardy in zone 4? Your site indicates it is, but looking into the type more, another site indicated that Tazetta Daffs are can only take the cold of zone 7. I really would like to get this variety, but am nervous it could not make it through our cold winters.
Asked by Johanna
Verified Reply - ViciThis daffodil is recommended for zones 4 - 9. Because zone 4 is in the lower part of the recommended zones you might need to mulch the bulbs in the winter to protect them from the coldest temperatures. In zone 4 you are best to choose plants that are recommended for zone 3 to allow for unusually cold winters. Was this answer helpful to you
