Papaver orientale Central Park (Oriental Poppy)

Submitted 2 years ago

By FWF

From NJ

This is my second year trying to grow this. Last year none of them grew. This time I gave them really fluffy, well-draining soil and I think that might have helped. I can't wait to see the purple color.

Very healthy plants were shipped.

Ordered this beautiful purple poppy last year but wrong plant was sent. Customer service was very nice and helpful. Credit was given and I received three very healthy plants this time. Planted them immediately and they are growing very very, right beside my other poppies. Poppies thrive in full sun but don't like much water. Two good tips if you want healthy plants and flowers every year.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Did not grow

By Selaine

From Walla Walla, WA

I've ordered this papaver twice now, so 6 plants. None of them grew even though the root looked viable when it arrived. I can't explain it. Same with the picotee and the pink ones I ordered. None grew. I have other oriental poppies I got elsewhere that are growing fine and increase every year, but not these from this company. I was so disappointed as they look so beautiful.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Q
I just received several plants from you. We still get freezing temps at night 20s to 30s. Should I plant them now or wait until we no longer are having freezing temps. 40s to 50s during the day.
Asked by Lynda
Verified Reply - ViciAs long as your ground is workable you can plant your plants. The freezing temps will not harm the plants once they are planted in the ground. They will stay dormant until the ground warms up.Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Can I grow this in pots instead of the ground? Thanks!!
Asked by KadyBloom
Verified Reply - AngelaCentral Park Papaver orientale can be grown in a pot. You will need to move the pot into an unheated garage for winter in your region. Potted plants don't have the same root insulation as those planted in the ground. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Hi! Will this flower bloom in spring/summer 2023? Thanks.
Asked by Mai
Verified Reply - ViciThis is a spring shipped item that is shipped as a dormant bare root. It will work hard the first season to grow a new root system and foliage that will feed the plant for blooms the following year. Was this answer helpful to you
