Total Disappointment

Submitted 2 years ago

By Janet

From Bellingham WA

I planted these according to instructions as soon as they arrived, but none of them came up. They looked reasonably healthy and the other plants I received in the same order (echinops and hollyhocks) are all doing just great, so I'm not sure what went wrong with these, but they were a total disappointment.

Q
How many flowers do you get with the one bulb? How big of a flower pot would you need? Thank you!
Asked by Lisa
Verified Reply - ViciThis Bee balm grows anywhere from 24-36 inches tall. With its height and spreading characteristic, a 12 - 18 inch pot is needed. I would be sure it is at least 12 inches deep or more. Be sure that the pot is crack proof, weather resistant, and has good drainage holes. This plant is shipped as a dormant bare root plant. The first year it will be working on creating a new root system and foliage. You will probably get flowers the following year. This plant will grow into a clump, producing more flowers every year. It can be divided every 3 - 4 years. Was this answer helpful to you

Q
Can i plant bee balm while there is still snow on the ground?
Asked by I Know Nothing
Verified Reply - AngelaIf you feel the soil is workable and not too wet, you can plant bareroot plants in the snow. I have personally done it. If not, you can hold your plants in the original packaging in a cool and dark location. A refrigerator works well. They will hold for a couple of weeks. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Zone for blue Bee balm? I haven't seen it here where I live. The fushia color does great & I have a lot of it.
Asked by Lynne
Verified Reply - AngelaWe suggest all Bee Balm for USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 9. If the other type grows well there, you shouldn't have any issues. Was this answer helpful to you
Q

Asked by Ra
Verified Reply - AngelaA #1 plant is a top size bareroot plant. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Are these susceptible to powdery mildew and need to be sprayed?
Asked by Arlene
Verified Reply - AngelaBee Balm can be susceptible to powdery mildew. It's important to space appropriately to allow for air flow. Avoid watering overhead when possible and remove any infected parts immediately and discard in the garbage. If these preventative steps aren't successful in controlling the issue, you may want to spray. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
is it mildew resistant?
Asked by nib
Verified Reply - AngelaThe Blue and Pink Shades Beebalm isn't mildew resistant. As with all Bee Balm, you will need to provide plenty of space for air flow and avoid watering overhead. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I just received a shipment of your products and will plant today. What is appoximate germination for the following items: 83218/ 83169/ 83217/ 80679. We are looking forward to seeing these in our new flower garden. Thank You Steve
Asked by Steve
Verified Reply - ViciThese are shipped as dormant bareroot plants. You should see foliar growth within 4 - 6 weeks. Dormant bare root plants may bloom the first season but they may not bloom the first year as they are establishing a new root system. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Best time to plant
Asked by Lynn
Verified Reply - AngelaSpring is the best time to plant Beebalm. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Are you plants (annuals) Neonicotinoid-Free/
Asked by Patricia
Verified Reply - AngelaThe EPA regulates the use of pesticides and our in-house growers and those outside suppliers we use, operate off of these regulations. Currently, the EPA is allowing the use of this class of chemical. Neonicitinoids are sold in mass at the retail level by big box stores. They are essentially being used everywhere. For the products that we sell outside of the organic label, we cannot control if they have been exposed to these pest control tools. Was this answer helpful to you
