Red Spider Lily Bulbs (Lycoris radiata)

Red Spider Lily Bulbs (Lycoris radiata)

This beautiful, multi-flowering red flower lily creates a show-stopping, late summer display. Growing 18-24" tall, Lycoris radiata (Red Spider Lily) features strap-shaped green foliage that disappears in July. In August, clusters of spider-like flowers bloom and attract pollinators. The Red Spider Lily is also a very showy cut flower. For the best garden performance, plant in well-drained soil and in full sun to partial shade. Grow in cool greenhouses or outdoors in warmer areas where little or no frost is experienced. In zones lower than 7, apply a winter cover and lift Lycoris radiata in fall in zones 4-5.

Multiply Like Crazy!!!

Submitted 1 year ago

By Flower Puff

From NW Georgia

I first received these as "extras" from my mom who didn't know what to do with all her new baby lily bulbs. I gladly accepted them then scattered them in front of my boxwood bushes. I waited way too long to plant them (rcvd late August/planted following spring). To my surprise, late in the following August I had oodles of blooms which turned into lovely green grassy mounds of ground cover throughout the fall, winter, and next spring (kind of look like "monkey grass"). Now, 5 yrs later, I also have crazy amounts of new bulb babies to watch wander to other areas of my yard and to share. These grow really close to the surface, so they're easy to move if you wish to add to other areas of your landscape. They have done well despite NW GA's extra soggy winters and our hot, drought prone summers. They are definitely the least needy plant in my landscape. LOVE THEM. Great cut flower time...~2 weeks. Not bothered by deer, squirrels, rabbits, or field mice. (These share space well with other plants ranging from daffodils, mums, lavender, tulips, muhly grass, and my butterfly bush.)

Bulbs never grew. Waste of money. Don't buy dry bulbs here.

By Disappointed Gardener

From Georgia

I'm no amateur gardener, sited properly, planted properly, but nothing ever grew, not even foliage. I heard these were hard to kill so I figured I couldn't go wrong, but I have since learned not to buy Lycoris as dried bulbs, purchase plants in the green for better results. Often dried bulbs will only grow foliage and not flowers for about 5 years after drying out, these bulbs didn't even do that much. Not worth the wait and disappointment. Waste of money.

Very disappointed in the performance of the bulbs. I have searched for spider lilies for a long time and was overjoyed when I found them on your website. None of the spider lily bulbs I planted grew.

Beautiful bulbs

Submitted 3 years ago

By Allison

From Pensacola, FL

Just recently received my order and the bulbs are big, pretty, and sprouting some healthy deep green foliage tips. I am very very pleased. They have been in the ground for about a week here in the northern part of Florida and they are just shining in the flower bed - happy little heads popping up.

none came up.

By Sarah

From North Carolina

I ordered 3 packs of 5 last fall and planted them in a semi-shaded bed according to instructions. I live in central NC (7b) and these grow wild in our area; I see them everywhere and they thrive. Not a single lily came up this year, even though they are peaking all around me. I was so excited about them but I am very disappointed.

Merchant Response

Lycoris radiata.

Submitted 4 years ago

By Chato.

From Austin, Texas

For the disappointed ones, writing "nothing grew" "or slow grow". It's typical for lycoris not to pop-up until the third year, if removed from it's natural environment, as for my experience. Also, it's a shade flower. From Austin Texas.
